feeling a lil bummed (long)

feeling a lil bummed (long)

i watch all of these wedding shows and especially perfect proposal and i think of my proposal. i know its dumb to feel this way because my proposal was amazing.. but i wish it were a little different. a little background, FH and i had started planning our wedding before we were engaged because we were just waiting for him to save up for the ring. i picked out the ring, and he knew i wanted it done in disney.. it came to a point that i was like, just forget it, surprise me and it do it anywhere at any time because i didnt wanna know when it was gonna happen. well he had the idea that it still had to be in disney so he never proposed before our trip for our 4 year anniversary

we got there, and i was so against getting proposed on our anniversary because i felt like it was so typical and i wanted it to be on a random day. 2 days go by at disney nothing. on our anniversary i was having such a bad day (my dress broke, we were fighting, etc) i just didnt care anymore. i screwed up the first proposal sight at the polynesian because i had felt sick while we were on the swings and decided to go inside. (it was in june so it was sooo hot and the alcohol was getting to me) he finally admitted that that was the plan was to propose to me on the beach at the poly. it was so romantic and at that time i felt it wouldve been perfect for him to propose at that moment.

we go back to epcot for a quick trip before we have dinner at california grill. our plan was to go on spaceship earth (which is a tradition of ours to go on that first) and then we'd go to norway since it was our favorite and then he said 'and somewhere else its a surprise' so we get on spaceship earth (people that arent too familiar, the big golf ball at epcot) and at the top he pulls out the ring and its so loud i cant hear a thing he's saying but he says something like 'now that we're on top of the world, you know how i feel when im with you, will you marry me' and im just smiling cause i knew he was proposing and then he says 'well??' and im like 'well what' cause i didnt hear anything. then he repeats and it was nice. i didnt cry or anything. even though it was a surprise, i knew it was gonna happen.

so why im bummed is, because when i dreamed of it, i always wanted him to tell me how he feels about me (he's really shy and doesnt show his emotions a whole lot so it would be nice to be told exactly how he feels), he didnt do that, and i really wanted him to be down on one knee. that didnt happen either. i also wanted it to be a complete surprise.. i just feel like i missed out and im dissapointed. it makes me really upset. i know its stupid because we are engaged and are getting married. but i just wish we could do a do over. is it wrong for me to feel this way? should i say anything to my FH?

We all want things to be perfect. We have one thought and they have another. I always dreamed of getting engaged at Shea stadium. We actually went to a game and were in the diamond view suites. I just knew it was the day. Mr. Met walked in and I knew it was it!!!! Needless to say, we finished the day still boyfriend and girlfriend.

He proposed 2 weeks later at home. Sometimes we get a moment in our head of how things are supposed to be and it feels like a let down. But my DH isn't into public things, so Shea wasn't for him. I didn't want him to be uncomfortable.

We have to understand that life doesn't always go the way we planned. If it did we couldn't call it the present. Presents are unexpected treasures and I believe that life is too.

You do have the right to be a bit dissapointed because you wanted it a certain way. However, like waterspout said, life is not perfect. I wouldn't say anything to FH because to him, that moment when he proposed meant a lot to him. Also, he may just say, 'well, if you wouldn't have gotten sick.....' and you don't want him to say that.

I didn't have a 'perfect' proposal either. I wanted it to be just 'us' when he proposed, but he proposed while we were out to dinner with our friends because it was with these friends that I was with when we met each other. To me, it was enough. Yes, when I hear about all these 'perfect' proposals I'm a tad bit jealous, but honestly I wouldn't change mine for the world.

Chin up!

I hear what you are saying I am bummed out about my proposal too! I always expressed to John I wanted him to ask infront of my family and I wanted him to ask my fathers permission and he did neither. he actually proposed on a hammock on vacation with no ring or anything and I didnt think he was being serious then when I realized is when he announced it to his parents 1 minute later! and I was soo upset I was CRYING my eyes out not out of happiness but because my family was not with me

Well I always hoped my proposal would be in a hot air balloon, & fh proposed somewhere familiar to us... I love it tho, it was beautiful and everytime we drive past it I get giddy!

I think it sounds very nice and sweet. I wouldn't give it a second thought. Really all that matters is that you guys are getting married-nothing can be any better than that.

i would never say anything to FH. that would probably really hurt him because this was what he imagine you would want. and then he'll spend the rest of his life with you feeling that he'll never really be able to surprise you because he'll be afraid of letting you down.

I know how you feel. My proposal, on April Fool's Day, consisted of 'by the way, will you marry me' without a ring. No romance, no flowers, no candles, and NO ring. Heck, I wasn't even sure he was serious.

Yours may have not been executed exactly the way you wanted - but it was at Disney (where you wanted it), he did say how he felt (like he was on top of the world), and there was romance to it.

Don't tell him you are disappointed. It will break his heart.

Honestly it was kinda special.. we all have it in our heads how it would of been pefect.

Its still better then mine in a hotel room after a day of drinking during a huricane booming down on us. I left for a drink of water and came back to him on the floor on both knees in his underwear. NOW that is sad..hahahah

FH proposed to me in the car at the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Stewart Avenue in Garden City. Not exactly the 'perfect' place (considering we were at the EAB tree aboutan hour before, he had the ring in his pocket and totally chickened out) but now I get this strange smile when ever we drive through that intersection.

I definatly like your story better then mine ! ! We could always trade

haha aww.. thanks so much for your stories girls and making me feel a little better.. actually, someone i know had a funny story.. her now ex fiance had gotten come into the room completely naked and said 'this is what you get if you want me' or something like that and got down on his knee. i'd be like hunny, your junk is on the floor get up!! or another person, his fiance had been nagging him about getting married and he came in, threw the ring at her and said are you happy now. now thats just WRONG!!!

The worst thing anyone can do is attach expectations to major events in their lives.... this is why people get the 'blues' the day after xmas, bdays, and weddings....

The most impt thing is that you are together - and noone's personality changes for a major event - this is the man you fell in love with and his personality is his personality...

Just enjoy all those glorious monents you are going to have together for the rest of your life that will overshadow his proposal, and your wedding!

The times I spend with DH now totally blow all those party moments out of the water.... cuddling and sleeping late Sunday morning, a dinner at our favorite restaraunt... laughing like idiots at some silly movie... the list goes on and on. The proposal was... nice - but the time after that - oooh man!

I feel ya...

My best friend got engaged at the Trevi fountain in England. It was a total surprise, her (now) husband got down on bended knee with a lovely ring and a rose and told her how wonderful she was and blah blah blah.

So you can imagine my 'disappointment' when FH finally proposed and rather than a big speech about how much he loved me and couldn't live without me... I got 'So... ya wanna do it?'

No worries though. The proposal was ours. And it is a treasured memory. And you know what? Had he gotten on one knee and started with the effusive praise.. it really wouldn't have fit who WE are. I am happy that our engagement wasn't an anomaly.

Besides... I think your engagement was adorable!!

Re: feeling a lil bummed (long)

i can totally understand your disappointment... as you can tell from all these posts, so many of us have something in our mind and when it doesn't go as we envisioned it, we feel let down. i guess, unfortunately, it's 'normal'.
mike propsed to me when he got home from work... i was all sweaty from cleaning all day and i was in the middle of cooking dinner. he made me come upstairs to the bedroom, so i knew something weird was going on and then he gave me a dozen roses which he NEVER does, lol so i knew what was happening. he held out the ring and didn't say a word. it was so incredibly unromantic, but it's our story. and it fits his personality even though i wish it were different.
even though your proposal wasn't exactly how you imagined it, he definitely put thought into it and tried to make it special for you. and it's your story and it always will be. i wouldn't say anything to him, it will just hurt him.

Aww no worries.

I was proposed to at 1am in the rain at the Syosset train station!

Everyone expected some grand story from me (FH loves to make a scene and embarass me) but it wasn't, I kinda felt bad but now that I think about it, its truly different and memorable!
