DH and I decided to have a New Years party in our new apartment. We sent out the evite over a month ago. Some people told us it was way too early, while others already had plans. As it turns out, less than 10 people are coming. They are all close friends who we love hanging out with, and I'm sure we'll end up having a good time together, but I guess I'm just feeling rejected by the rest of our friends.

I get like that also when people do that to me. But I always end up having a good with the company that shows. I am sure you will too.

Awww. Don't feel too bad. First of all, you have no idea who will RSVP last minute. Second, I find NYE to be a hard time to get a lot of different people together, unless you have 'drop ins'. People tend to be scattered every which way. I think this is also due to the fact that I find more and more people are having house parties. Tends to be a lot of competition.

Re: Feeling bummed about our new years party
the parties that you think are going to be least fun are usually the most!
You'll have a great time! And think of all of the money you'll save on food & drink, how much less of a mess there will be to clean up, etc, etc.
Maybe you should have a nice dinner instead of just a party since there are fewer people?
It'll be great!

Re: Feeling bummed about our new years party
Well, in terms of making it a dinner, all our friends who are actually coming are observant Jews and all keep Shabbat. Not everyone who we invited is observant (or Jewish, for that matter), but that's just the way it turned out with who is coming. Therefore, they all have to be there before sundown Friday night, until after sundown Saturday. We will have dinner for everyone, plus breakfast/lunch the following day, etc. I have no problem with this at all, b/c I realized this would happen if I invited my friends over on a Friday night. I know we all will have fun, but I'm just really upset that it's not a bigger party.

Really? 24 hours? Now that's a party!

Jackie, I'm really sorry.
I've been trying to find out what's going on for New Year's for awhile, and it turns out that I'm going to have to work.

At least you'll be able to talk to all 10 people...sometimes it's nice when it's cozy...and hopefully everyone will be able to have a seat!
