I just cannot lose this weight. Since I started dating fi, I have gained 60 pounds (6 years), there was also a death in my family which I think may have contributed to my eating. Now, with 8 months to the wedding, I still cannot stop eating. I just don't know what to do anymore.

Re: Feeling depressed
Have you gone to the doctor? There are several medical conditions such as hypothyroidism that can make it difficult to loose weight.
Just something to consider.

Re: Feeling depressed
You gotta workout...consistently. Find a gym-STICK to a plan-a little bit everyday, it doesn't have to be running miles at a time. Walking and weight lifting, swimming, bike riding, the elliptical, take classes...mix it up. Stick with you ww and start sticking to an exercise plan. Unfortunately girls like us have to work HARD but a healthy, trimmer you is possible. I just firmly believe in consistent exercise and smart choices when eating. I'd also recommend working out in the am-this takes discipline but there are too many excuses at the end of the day.

I completely agree with the workout routine. You don't necessarily have to change your eating habits. I love food, especially junk, and could never give it up. It definitely helps having someone with you at the gym to talk to though. I get really bored there by myself. Plus it motivates you to work harder.

Re: Feeling depressed
I belong to a gym but stopped going a few months ago. I still have like a year left on my contract. I joined with my friend and she doesn't go either. I have to start going again. I am just so lazy. Uhh I hate myself right now.

Don't get discouraged. You have time to reach a goal and you just have to put your mind to it. Maybe ask another friend if they would join or go to the gym with you, I know it helps having someone with you. Also, try eating light during the week and then treating yourself once in a while so you don't feel you are missing out on anything.

Re: Feeling depressed
honestly? See a therapist. It sounds like there's a lot more going on here than just weight gain. If you lost a family member and are reacting to that, it's not something that will be helped with just weight watchers, and considering how stressful wedding planning is, I'm sure that's not helping either.
If you can't afford it out of pocket then talk to your doctor and see if there's anything they can recommend. Also call your health insurance provider (if you have one) and ask - most cover at least a percentage of therapy.
I know a lot of people out there don't want to go to a therapist because they think they can handle things on their own, or they think it shows weakness, or a billion other things, but issues like this only build and build and get worse and worse. Trust me, I know from personal experience. It's really worth looking into. It can't hurt to at least make a few phone calls to see if it's possible financially.
And if there's any support we can lend, let us know!

Thank you. I know, I haven't dealt with the death yet and its just building on me more and more. I have to look into it. I am going to fm you if you have more info for me.

Re: Feeling depressed
This week I have started up with my mom walking. The aim is 4 days a week and by the summer jogging. I did this last summer and it worked nicely.
Changing your diet helps too, have you ried weight watchers? Also like a one a day weight smart to boost your metabolism. Drink lots of Geen Tea and water. And try one of those 2 dy liquid diets you will not lose 10 pounds like it says but it gives you a jumpstart.

Re: Feeling depressed
You sound just like me. I've gained about 30 lbs since I started dating FH and I can't lose any weight, in fact I keep gaining weight! And I'm just like you, the problem is that I over eat. I am also allergic to the gym!! If you want to lose weight you're going to have to eat less and do cardio. However I'm not sure that its going to work because I've never been able to keep it up long enough to lose a significant amount of weight. I did the treadmill once this week and I said I was going to keep it up but I haven't been motivated. I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone! Hopefully the wedding can be our motivation! Good luck!

Re: Feeling depressed
I know for me, it helps when I find an activity at the gym that I enjoy. Try taking some group classes at your gym and see if anything sparks your interest. I love love love step class and I get so sad if I miss it. I enjoy it so much that it doens't even feel like a chore. See if you can find a class that you love and stick to it each week. Even if you start out by taking only one class a week, you can build up later.

Re: Feeling depressed
Hang in there - I feel the same way! Now, w/ less than THREE MONTHS to go, I have finally got some ambition. Pretty pathetic, but better late than never!
As for WW, I'm sick of it. I know the loop holes, and how to get around it. A bunch of us at work formed a Biggest Losers club and it is really helping.
Just try and stay focused, but allow yourself to be human. I'm sure your FH loves you AS IS, so don't worry!

Re: Feeling depressed
If you can't stop eating, perhaps you can try changing what it is you ARE eating. Instead of the bag of sour cream and onion potato chips, try the baked Lays, or pretzels (or just skip the dip!). I would suggest baby carrots, but I know where you're coming from and I know how that suggestion sounds.
Making simple switches might help a bit. I completely stopped eating regular pasta and switched to whole wheat. I found an organic brand that is FABULOUS!!! I switched from regular sausage to turkey sausage (meatballs too!)

Try walking. When I'm at work I always take the stairs. Every little bit helps. I love food so it is very hard for me to give up certain things. I just try to eat smaller portions. You can do it!!!

Re: Feeling depressed
One thing that really helped me was to eat more during the day! Don't save all your points/treats/calories for dinner and after dinner. Fill up at breakfast, lunch, mid-afternoon snack, and aim for a lighter more healthy dinner. Get your family to do it with you, it's good for them too!
If you can go to the gym, use the treadmill. If they have TV's that helps to pass the time, or bring your own music. Or just grab your mom or a friend and fast-walk around the neighborhood for 45 minutes!
You can do this! And remember, it's not to become a different or 'better' person, it's to improve your health and vitality! You are wonderful and beautiful the way you are!

Re: Feeling depressed
I also suffer from a severe gym allergy and I hate dieting. I'm a total foodie and it's very hard for me. But every time it has worked, it's always begun by dumping all the junk out of my fridge, freezer, and cabinets and replacing junk with good stuff. I'm still eating constantly, but I am eating better. And this was a great combo with South Beach since you're allowed to eat as much as you want - you're just limited to what you can have. Might be worth giving it a shot.
Other suggestions - maybe you should sign up for an activity that's active, but fun and not at the gym - like a dance class or something. I think I'm going to increase FH and mine's lessons - I like them and we are active so it's a start. And, if you do end up doing a diet and you're the cook in the family, put everyone on the diet. At first I tried making me something healthy and FH something better - still healthy, but more tasty or violating some sort of diet rule. I wouldn't recommend that - makes it too hard.
Finally, I agree with the above poster who suggested therapy - more important than your struggles with weight loss, it sounds like you might actually be suffering from depression. Your doctor can probably give you some good places to start - may even be able to do the initial diagnosis.
