My parents are seriously making me depressed!!! This is the very first New Year's Eve I'm not spending with them and of course my brother decides he wants to spend it with his girlfriend as well. They're heading to a party with my aunt & uncle but on Christmas Eve, my dad was saying how family time is coming to an end and he's just gonna retire and move away with my mom because it's not like we're really spending the holidays together anyways. We've always been extremely close and I don't want that to change. But, I also don't want to not spend any holidays with FH out of guilt. I'm trying to compromise the best I can.
I feel so bad.. but then again, I wish they would understand that I need to spend time with FH too! I told them we can do New Year's Day!! But I think it's more the realization that me and my brother are now building our own lives. I just wish they realized it doesn't mean we love them any less.

I'm sorry that your father isn't looking at this from your point of view. I'm sure he will come around. He just has to get used to the change.

Aww dont feel guilty Like Angie said, your dad needs to get used to the change. It is going to be tough at 1st but he has to see that u are compromising and that u have ur own life to live.

Aww, I completely understand your guilt, although I haven't spent NYE at home in a few years.... I understand about the holidays, in general. Change is hard as well--on everyone. I think the splitting of the holidays w/my fiance' is going to be super hard for me in the future haha... I can feel it already!
What about setting up a nice dinner reservation for your parents for NYE?

Re: Feeling Guilty..
Sorry your dad making you feel guilty. Parents have a hard time letting going and realizing traditions are going to change. My dad makes comments here and there also but I know not to take them personally. Hopefully things get better for you!

It's very hard because they need to realize sooner then later what's its like when we are not there and we are starting our own lives. It happened to me too but I go there new years day! And he's ok with it now. He will get pastit. Just give him time and don't feel guilty. Your engaged you have your life and in time he will understand.

Ugh! It stinks, I wish my parents would understand that it's hard for me to see them like this!
