Fellow HR people - question for you

Fellow HR people - question for you

I started as an HR Asst in 2001. Basic duties, offer letters, filing, scheduling. I got a $5k raise after only being there for a year. In late 2002 i got laid off after a merger. In early 2003 I got rehired by the company that took over because they had an opening and they liked me so much (i got laid off due to duplication in positions). When I was rehired, I was hired as an HR Coordinator at $7k more than I was making at the original co. when i was laid off. I replaced 3 people - The HR Exec Asst, HR Coord, and an HR Generalist.

So - now I am an HR Coord, I just got another raise ($4k) but I am doing all 3 jobs. I mean, I am doing expense reports, scheduling, offer letters, orientations, recruiting, interviews...anything you can think of. My dept supports 300 people. My bosses told me it would be 'temporary'. My question is, dont you think at this point I should be promoted? It is quite demeaning (and confusing) to me to be basically doing people's expenses and booking conference rooms one day and the next being solely responsible for filling an open position. They have the $ to hire an asst they just have been lagging on it.

Am I wrong here? I want to leave and work in NJ, but I have been with the co. for a decent amt of time and I know I would get a decent maternity leave, etc, be able to work from home 1 day a week.

What do you think? I feel so unvalued.

I don't work in HR.... but you can never underappreciate the value of good benefits (ie: a good Maternity leave) when you are with a certain company for a good period of time. Stuff like that is very important, almost as important as salary.

I think it's not that they don't value you but that maybe they think they can't afford an asst or that you are doing such a good job at it now. You're busting your butt though. I would talk to your boss about it. Tell her you want to maintain that level where you meet deadlines, etc but at the same time you're burning out and that you would love to get an asst - that way the work is done, done right and (to me) they are not losing money.
