Female or Male Ob/Gyn (Poll)

Female or Male Ob/Gyn (Poll)

Do you have a preference and if you don't mind can you share why?

MY DH and I have started the TTC conversation. I am really trying to decide whether I want to go with a male or female Ob/Gyn.

I picked male because that's what mine is ... but I don't actually have a preference. He was recommended to me by a trusted friend MANY years ago.

The way I feel about going to a female OBGYN is the same way that straight men feel about going to a male masseuse. Ain't gonna do it!

Actually, I just remembered that I got a pap smear once from a female doctor. It wasn't a big deal, but I prefer my guy. I've gone to him for years.

my doc's have always been men. Not intentionally, two were my moms docs so I stayed with them (had to switch a couple times due to insurance).
My FIRST gyn exam was with a woman and it was the worst doctors visit I had EVER had. She was so cold and unfriendly, and meanwhile I was scared since it was my first visit ever. I've gone to men ever since.

I guess I should check to see if my doc is an ob as well, otherwise I have to find a new one.

I go to a practice where one man and one woman split the practice. I like having the choice sometimes because believe it or not they have given me different feedback on several subjects such as prenatal vitamins, to wait/not to wait to TTC after coming off of birth control, etc. Its like getting a second opinion. I prefer him only because I know he was published and him and his wife had difficulty TTC, so I feel he might be more empathetic and up to date on current research if that ever occurs.

I really thought I was going to be alone on this, but I just don't want another women 'down there'.
For me, it has to be a man. Now as for my DH he'd prefer me to go to a woman. I've been going to mine for years, and I will not change. Heck, no one likes going to the gyno but as women its something we need to do.
You have to do whats comfortable for you.

Thank goodness I'm not the only one!

I also prefer a man. I've only went to a woman once, and I currently use a male OBGYN, and have no problems about it.

I actually would prefer a female but my current gyn is male and I like him so I'll stick with him for now.

At the moment I have a female. I chose her for the same reason I will not take my Plymouth to a Saturn dealership for fixing. It's about real familiarity with the un, working parts. I expected a female to be more in tune and empathetic.

Though I have to say, I wasn't really comfortable talking to her, so I would consider a male if one was recommended.

I prefer a female. I think they can relate better to what your feeling and experiencing. I have endomitriosis and have had to have a lot of difficult conversations that I wouldn't want to have with a guy. Plus my friend gyn in NY was a woman and was so sweet and gentle, my gyn in IL is also a woman and is the same way. I saw a man once at the ER and hated it!

I prefer a female to be my GYN, but my OB to be a man, they are much more sensitive in the labor and delivery room (IMO), they truly don't know what it is like so they can be a little more 'giving', while a female OB who has already given birth can be very determined to 'get the job done', but when it comes down to it, when you;re in that delivery room, you;d let the custodian deliver the baby, as long as someone gets the baby OUT!

I had a male deliver my 1st born and a female deliver my second born, and although they were both great, the male was more comforting and supportive

definately a female!!!

A want a woman who has already been through the same experience.. being pregnant, delivery, even having a period!!! I think its different...Sometimes the man doctor didnt seem to take me as seriously as the woman... They know what its like to have pains etc... Men are going from a textbook!! Female all the way, always...
Besides I kinda feel wierd with a man massaging my breasts etc LOL

I've actually never been to a femal gyn but I don't think I care to. I've always chosen males for some reason and it's been fine. I always hear they are 'gentler' than the females.

I prefer a female OBGYN for the same reasons. I had a male OBGYN and I just did not feel comfortable. I don't like the idea of a man giving me a breast exam. Plus, it just puzzles me why a man decides to be an OBGYN. I just don't get it. I know they are professionals, but I still think that a 'Man is a Man' Just my opinion. Maybe I am just paranoid!

I have a male ob/gyn and I love him!

I HAD a female one and she really freaked me out. She told me that she was recently licenced to give internal sonograms. She then proceeds to shove that thing inside and show me my ovaries (without me saying no). She then tells me that when I do become pregnant I am going to have trouble because I have a flap of skin that covers my cervix and a simple snip will take care of it.

YIKES!!

I told her I'll cross that bridge when I get there. Well I'm there and I'm pregnant. I guess she was wrong! She also looked at me funny... I think she was a lesbian...

I had the best Male Doctor until he passed away 2 years ago. I tried his partner, also a man, but I didn't have a connection with him. I think its all about bedside manner. He didn't have any.

Now I am going to a woman, she was very good and I liked her. She is a mid wife and has had children, which in my book she will be more empathic when I give birth. We shall see.
