Feta Cheese

Hi,

I am about 6 weeks and I really craving a greek salad from the diner near my house. How bad is feta cheese? I heard you shouldn't eat any soft imported cheeses.

Help????

I have heard a lot of people say everything in moderation - I have had a bit of things here and there - but depending how far along you are I am not sure I would have a whole salad...maybe order the cheese on the side and only have a little?

I just got a print out of foods from my doctor yesterday.

Each group of foods say:

Eat all you want
Eat no more than 1 serving a week
Eat no more than 2 servings per week
Do not eat unless reheated until steaming hot
DO not eat

Unfortunately, brie cheese falls under the Do not eat

My doctor told me that as long as it's pasturized, you can eat soft cheeses. Maybe get the salad with no cheese and pick up your own at the grocery store so you know for sure it's pasturized?

I was going to make the same suggestion as clpunch -- make your own salad at home with pasteurized feta from the grocery store.

I'm risk adverse -- I wouldn't eat a greek salad from the diner. Soft cheeses seem to be one of very few non-controversial no-nos.

My dr said everything in moderation incl. cheeses. I did have Greek salads with feta from time to time. If it had a ton of feta - I would just take some out.

For some reason my Dr's office told me no feta...whether pasteurized or not. I have no idea why, they said 'just don't risk it- we've had a miscarriage at this practice due to consumption of soft cheese...'

I have no idea if that is true or not, but I've stayed away. It stinks because all I've been craving are greek salads and Blue cheese anything!!! I can't wait to eat that stuff again

I would also be hesitant to eat Feta at a diner...some places buy imported Feta.
