FG Dress issue

FG Dress issue

Our FG is FH's niece- his sister's daughter. I found a dress that I really loved and it was $140 in the store. I thought that was kind of expensive, so I researched and found it for $80 at gownfind.
Well, FH's sister doesn't want to spend that much.
I told FH to ask her what she is willing to spend, and I will try to find something in that price range, and if I can't I will pay the remainder of the original dress. He thinks that she will be insulted by this.
Oh, she wants to look in a thrift store for the dress. I feel insulted that she wants to do this.
Am I wrong to feel this way? Do you think she should be insulted by my offering to pay for part of the dress?

First of all,$80 is not a lot to spend. Second of all if it IS a lot then I wouldn't be insulted if someone offered to pay. Before I asked the children to partake in my wedding, I made sure that the parents would be willing to incur any expense associated with their participation. If they couldn't, then I wouldn't have asked the kids. She should have thought about that before she agreed to allow her child to participate.

NO she should not feel insulted. YOU should be insulted she wants to look in a thrift store!!

I offered to pay for my FG dress if my brother thinks it's too much (since it's for his daughter) and trust me, he had no problem with that.

You should calmly tell her, while you realize she does not want to spend a lot on a dress she will wear once, it is important to you that you have the dress you fell in love with for the FG, and that you are willing to pay the difference over what she was willing to spend.
