FH and I had a close call (accident) today..WE ARE OK
So we are driving home from his job, going to meet a friend at the mall. We are stuck in traffic on Lakeville Road heading to the LIE. Traffic starts to move, he starts to move the car and we hear....
Crack.... crack.... crack..... THUD
FH all of a sudden yells 'OH S#@T!!!!!!!
I look back in the side mirror......
Right were our car had just been, there is now a tree.
Yes, a tree.
The roots had rotted out, and the entire TREE fell across the road. We had just pulled out in time, 3 seconds delay and the car would have been toast.
Luckily, NO ONE was hit (not sure how that miracle happened). The car behind us slammed on its brakes in time. As soon as I registered what happened, I started to leap out of the car (emergency mode) and dial 911. FH at this point is also out of the car, helping move some of the debris so the road was not completely blocked, because there was an emergency vehicle heading to a different accident that had to get through. The officer thanked me for calling it in
Get Emergency services, who cant patch me to Nassau PD, so they give me the number. We call, and within 30 seconds the Lake Success police show up.
Its about at that point that I realize..... a few seconds delay in starting the car, it wouldnt have been just a move the tree off the road and clear debris, it would have been a SUV crushed under the tree... ours. As the police show up, I start relaying what had happened, emphasizing that No one had been hit by the tree, and that there were no injuries, just a blocked road.
The police officer suggested that FH and I go buy lottery tickets tonight....
And, thats my near accident experience for the day. I started shaking once everything was clear and the Police had moved the tree.... FH is cool as a cucumber...I was a nervous wreck
