FH and i had a huge fight. am i over -reacting? really long...

we have a close group of friends that have all been together since highschool. most of us are settled down, marrying or in serious relationships... except our one friend 'Bob'. Bob is 28 yrs old and just decided to leave his job to go back to graduate school in Texas. He is home for the summer he recently called us to invite himself and a date out on my FH boat (which is more like his dad's) and then sent out a huge email to all of our friends inviting them to fireworks on the beach friday night. the problem is the beach he wants to go to can only be reached by boat and my FH is the only one with a boat. we never made plans with this Bob nor had any intentions of being a water taxi on friday. so i sent Bob a somewhat sarcastic but friendly email expalining that we had never made plans with him to go out, nor could we possibly have extended an invitation to 12 people when the boat can only hold maybe 6 people safely. i copied the email and sent it to our friends.
The reason we had a fight was that Bob called my FH to tell him about the b*tchy email i sent him and how could i possibly have declined taking Bob and his date of the week out for the fourth. Now my FH agreed with me in the first place that Bob had been rude to invite himself and his date to begin with and was equally aggrivated that he had extended the invite to everyone without even asking. I read him the email before i sent it last night, but when Bob called my FH pretended not to know about my email! He told me that he explained to Bob that we had some busy stuff to do friday and the reason we couldn't take him on the boat was that we didnt want to inconvience Bob and his date if our plans didn't fit with what Bob had in mind. I wrote the email in defense of my FH and myself because I am tired of Bobs impositions. sending out this invite to 12 people just pushed me over the top.
i was really angry and hurt by my FH because instead of backing me up and telling this guy, 'yeah my fiance is right. you shouldnt have invited yourself and everyone else and she is not a b*tch' he played dumb and then pretended to be concerned with Bob's matter of inconvience with the boating plans. I just feel that first of all, I was sticking up for him as well as myself by telling our friend he had overstepped some issues and put my FH in an akward position by inviting himself out. I think my FH should have backed up what I said and stood up for himself as well. Now its like I am some uptight b*tch and tried to speak for my FH as if he was as aggrivated as I was ( whcih he was, but since he didnot tell this to Bob, it seems like my FH never was never bothered) I told my FH that if we are getting married we are partners and should stand by eachother and have one another's back, He sure didn't have my back today, even though the whole thing was because i was standing up for him!

Am i overreacting? we had a huge yelling match over the fact that he lied to Bob about how he was feeling and the fact that he aloud Bob to call me a b*itch and make it seem like i was a ranting luatic over something he was never even upset over. We hung up on eachother , we were really going at it. this is the first big fight we have had in 5 years. i am basically just hurt because i thought he should back me up as my future husband! isn't that part of a marriage? to be supportive and defend your partner... especially when you agreed with her in the first place! he has done this recently with my FSIL when she had been really nasty and rude to me. He noticed she was doing it and agreed with me later that she was rude but he wont say anything to her about it. It hurts me to think maybe he doenst care enough about me to stand up for me.

should i call and apologize? i told him i did want to talk to him today. i feel sick.
maybe i am making a mountain out of a mole hill, i started on the pill and its making my moods crazy....
if you made it through reading this mess, thank you and please give me an objective opinion...

I think you are right to be upset with your FH. He probably didin't want to look like the bad guy in front of his friend. Especially since you read the email to him before sending it. My FH is sort of the same. He never wants to be the bad guy.

You should call your FH after you cool down a bit more. Then suggest that you talk calmly about this situation.

There is no excuse for him to get angry when you read him the message you sent to Bob.

im soo sorry your fiance definately should not have calledyou a 'B.....' to this bob guy... he is definately in the wrong for that..

just a thought.....
why dont you tell fiance that your willing to email bob, and tell him 'i didnt realize fiance wanted to do your plans, keep your plan for using the boat, i dont care, I wont be hanging out with fiance that night anymore..'... and make plans with some of your girlfriends...

i had read it to him and he had agreed that he felt the same way. its just as you said, he didnt want to look like the bad guy, he hates to cause waves. i just thought that i was worth a splash or two

I would suggest in the future, to have FH deal with his own problems with his friends. That way you dont get caught in the middle..if the e-mail had come from him and not you this situation would not have come up.

Hope everything gets worked out!!

First off, you are NOT wrong in wanting your FH to back you up. calling you a b*tch is NEVER okay and your FH should have told his friend that.
I will say that I would have let my husband do the e-mailing to his friend. I probably would have not gotten involved very much. His friend was wrong to invite a group of people (and over the limit for boat safety) on your FFIL's boat.
I would call FH back and tell him that you are really upset that he didn't back you up and he allowed one of his friend's to call you a nasty name. What does he say to that? Tell him you want to speak camly about this later on tonight but that you are hurt.

you are right i shouldnt have gotten involved and should have let my FI deal with it but a few friends had called me to ask what time we were heading out on friday so i wanted to send something out to everyone to let them know there were no plans for friday so they could make other arrangements. i should have just let my FI deal with that too. I feel so sick over how we spoke to eachother but i am still really hurt. i will wait a while and call him to talk calmly. thanks so much girls...

I think you have every right o be upset.
And I agree with Butterfly since your FH agreed with you in private but didn't have the B@lls to agree with you in front of his friend you should let him get stuck doing something he doesn't want to do this Friday meanwhile you have a great time with your friends.

Don't sweat it. It will blow over.

I have had similar problems with my FH. He is a great guy...I love him more than anything...but he NEVER wants to be the bad guy. He will always agree with me outside the room...but has a hard time facing conflict

Bob is a &%* for inviting everyone on the boat...Who does that?!?!

I think our FHs should always back us up, at least publicly, and if they disagree or are angry they should talk to us privately about it.

You read your FH the email before you sent it, so he totally should have stuck up for you. He should have been straight with 'Bob' and told him to back off when Bob called you a b*&ch.

I think a lot of men have more of a problem with confrontation than women do. You were right to be annoyed with Bob's invitation(s), and I have been in your shoes when it comes to FH not having your back, both with a friend and with his FAMILY. Needless to say we had fights about it.
I was also called a name be his friend and he did nothing about it. To smooth things over, I ended up apologizing to the a$$ who insulted me (I stood up for myself and shot back).
Looking back, I regret it! Don't compromise yourself for this tool. Your FH can be forgiven, but he has to learn that if there is a next time, NO ONE calls you a name and doesn't get put in there place! Let him know it is unacceptable for him to let you take the fall for HIS feelings and maybe make him feel guilty.
I think the ball is in his court and he needs to step up to the plate and tell his friend that he agrees with the email, and it wasn't bi***y at all. It will eat at you if you apologize when you are in the right.

p.s. You are NOT overreacting!

THANKS SO MUCH GIRLS, I WAS FEELING GUILTY ABOUT GETTING UPSET. I WILL JUST LET HIM HANDLE THINGS HIMSELF FROM NOW ON AND IF HE ENDS UP WITH 12 PEOPLE AT HIS DOORSTEP HE WILL HAVE TO EXPLAIN. HE LEFT ME A VOICEMAIL JUST NOW, SO I GUESS WE WILL TALK IT OVER CALMLY. I BASICALLY JUSTWANT TO TELL HIM THAT IT HURTS ME WHEN HE DOESNT BACK ME UP OR DEFEND ME. I'M SURE HE'LL BE MORE UNDERSTANDING ONCE WE ADDRESS IT WITH INSIDE VOICES! THANKS AGAIN

ANYWAY, BOB CAN BE A REAL SOB. HE'S THE TYPE OF GUY THAT WILL SHOW UP AT NOON FOR YOU TO MAKE HIM LUNCH AND THEN STAY WAY PAST DINNER AND DESERT WAITING FOR YOU TO ASK HIM TO STAY THE NIGHT, ALL THE WHILE TALKING YOUR EAR OFF ABOUT HOM MANY UPSCALE NYC BARS AND $12 MARTINI'S HE DRANK THIS WEEK WITH ALL OF THESE SUPPOSEDLY BEAUTIFUL WOMEN. HE'S AN OK GUY AND OUR FRIEND BUT SOMETIMES HE CAN BE A REAL LOSER.

I am so sorry you are sad I would wait for him to call you, that way you have both calmed down. I will say from experience beacuse something similar happened to me.... let him fight his own battles. It will save you the heartache....
