FH and our Budget

FH and our Budget

So FH is from here (Ecuador) and doesn´t really understand NY Weddings (especially the cost)

Background info: In this country minimum wage is $208 per MONTH!!! (yes two hundred and eight!!) Although FH doesn´t make minimum wage by far it´s definitely not NY Salary for what he does!! Plus I have very limited income b.c I don´t have a reg job right now (i just might be making minimum wage )

We originally had a budget of only 10K However there are some things that FH himself doesn´t want to do without. So I filled out my budget spreadsheet (a godsend that includes everything from pantyhose to marriage license) yesterday I reworked it and got it down to $15K. I think it will work out to a little less but def not $10K. I told FH this and he couldn´t understand why it was so expensive!! (hello!! This is NY we´re talking about!!!)

So I made him sit with me and go through the budget item by item and see what I am budgeting. For some items he himself asked if we could really get it that low!!! Plus when we got to the part of the cab ride home from the rh. He says 'We´re going in a cab? What about the limo?' so i explain to him that it would be too expensive to have the limo waiting around but he wants me to find out how much they would charge to pick us up and drop us off!!

I was still debating wether or not we could have limos at all!!

Guys are funny!! At least he´s a little better with the budget now.

Also I´ve been doing research online and have been wanting him to sit with me and go over the options to narrow the vendors down to three to meet with when we get to NY but things have been hectic. But this morning we also sat and looked at potential videographers. Tomorrow he promised me all morning to go through photo and dj. We are FINALLY moving along!!

Sorry this is so long but my mom and sis wont´pick up so I needed to share!!

Sometimes men could be so clueless
I just wanted to add that sometimes the limo companies will include a car to pick you and FH up after the wedding. You should look into that so you can cut out the cab expense from your budget.

some companies do offer a return pick up but sometimes it depends on how many limo's you booked.

Thanks. I´ll look into that. But since I´m only getting one maybe two max (and no bigger than a 6 passenger) I don´t know how eager they will be to throw something in!! but i will definitely try!!

if you are using them it shouldnt matter how many limos you use.

i'm just curious, why don't you just hold the wedding in Ecuador? i've never been there but i'm pretty sure his country has that one (or several) beautiful places that you can hold your wedding at... and $10k would be more than enough budget for it! make it an Ecuador destination wedding!

We thought about that but since we are going to end up living here we´re doing the wedding there. That´s where all of my family is from anyway.

My mom (who is the one from here) says marriage is also a business. You want a good return on your investment. If people have to pay that much to travel your gifts wont be that nice!!

But really its because the ticket prices to come here are usually really expensive and times are tough for people right now so I know most people wouldn´t be able to come. And while I know that they would still send a gift (and so maybe we would actually get more doing it here because we get a gift without paying for their dish) I would much rather have as much of my family there as possible. Especially now that I dont get to see them that often, especially my extended family, its important to me.

Otherwise a beach wedding here would´ve been awesome!! They have some gorgeous beaches!!

my reasoning and my parents' was similar in why having the wedding here in NY instead of Israel.
my FH thought that $10K would be enough too. that is until we started pricing things out. needless to say we are way way over that
