FH crashed my car yesterday

Question:

My FH crashed my car yesterday According to him the lady was speeding and ran the stop sign. She has State Farm and I have Progressive. I dont know what to do.....I contacted State Farm and they said I should drop it off at one of their auto body repair shops and they will give me a rental car but then I might have to pay a $500 deductible. I also don't want my insurance to go up. My FH was told by the auto body repair shop that picked up the other ladies car, to drop it off there and let her insurance pay for everything. I called State Farm and they said they are still investigating liability. What should I do? Drop it off at a Progressive approved facility and let them handle it or wait until liability is established and let State Farm take care of it???

Did you file a police report? Were any tickets issued? Chances are both insurances are going to open up a claim and it could take months before it is settled.

I was in a similar situation and since I needed my car fixed immediately...I put it through my insurance. In the end, they found the other guy 70% at fault and me 30% at fault (since I hit him) and I did get some money back but it was about 8 months later. And yes...I did have to pay the $500 deductible....Ouch!

Another time I was rearended and I refused to open a claim with my insurance company. Since it was an easy case....it took 30-60 days before I was all clear to run thru the ladies insurance. Pain but I didnt have to pay a dime!

Yes, a police report was made. I don't believe any tickets were given even though the lady admitted to running the stop sign.

I don't know what to do Our car is drivable and I can wait. I don't want to pay a dime. I don't have $500 laying around

If you bring it to your car insurance and pay that $500 her insurance company should have to repay you for the damages that you paid for.

I was rear ended and could not wait for her insurance company to decide to fix my car-it was brand new and they wanted to put secondary parts on my car-so i went thru my insurance company, paid out of pocket and they had to pay me back.

Call your insurance company and ask them if this can apply to you.
Also, check the accident report-there should be a line-or check box saying who is at fault.

Honestly, go to an auto body shop you recommend or that you have already done business with. They are willing to work for you.

Go through your insurance, but NOT to their 'quick estimate shops.' The auto body shop knows how to 'play the game' and you may not even have to pay a deductible. They know how to overestimate and get your adjuster to give them a reasonable price. The insurance shops will always give less of an estimate and pay for second rate parts.
