FH failed a teacher cert. exam- HELP please!

He missed it by just a couple points, and this was his second attempt. He is so upset, nothing I'm saying is helping him. He is very worried that this is going to jeopardize the permanent position he has for September (he's currently a perm sub in the district), and he can't retake the test until April, results coming in May.

Did anyone have a problem with the multi-subject CST? He passed the LAST and the ATS-W with flying colors, but has such a hard time with the CST. It's the last exam he needs, and he is so discouraged. He used the studyguide that the state provides on the nystce website, but that didn't help very much.

Did anyone use a book, or know of a book that could help?

He is a GREAT teacher - he is great with the kids, the principal adores him, and he lives for it. He is really upset right now. He's also worried that this is going to have a major effect on his job situation, therefore his security, and our eventual wedding/home situation. He takes things very seriously, as you can tell, and keeps saying that he's letting everyone down. I told him that he could never let me down, but he just went home to write lesson plans.

Any suggestions/advice would be great, thank you in advance.

There's a Kaplan? I'm clueless. I'll try and head to Border's tomorrow morning.

He is great at math - english and the arts are generally his weakest points, but I went over the essay with him so much...

Yes, I'd check out that section in Border's. It's not such a new test anymore so at least there are some books out there.

I know when I was at City College, there was a course available for the Literacy CST through a professor. Is FH still in school? Can he find out at his old school if they offer any kind of program?

I have heard that the Multi-Subject is a b*tch. I didn't have to take it but the English was no picnic either.

Oh, the website where you register also has some sample questions. Those helped me a little.

Tracy- I printed out all 70something pages of the practice questions and guide....he did pretty well on them.

I think I'll def have to buy him a book.

It's so hard to see him upset!

That *****!! Those tests can be so dumb!!! When FI and I took them, he did SOO much better than me on the writing portion, and I kicked his butt on math -- he is the math teacher, and I was the journalism major, so go figure! plus his mom always makes fun of how he cant write!!!

Anyway, your FI still has time to pass, and no one ever asks to see the scores of those stupid tests, or how many times they were taken... when he interviews for jobs for next year, he just has to say that his certificatin is pending... not one interview I went on last year was even semi-concerned that my certification was pending...

Those tests are so stupid! I don't know of any books but I think he can take it as many times as he needs, so tell him not to worry and just do the best he can on the second one. It stinks that he has to take it again...those tests are the worst!
