We just got on invitation to a wedding of a college friend of his that he hasn't seen in about 2 years or maybe more. He wants to know if he needs to send a gift and does this now mean that he has to invite this guy and his FW to our wedding? I think its expected for him/us to send a gift because we got the invitation, and I don't think that he has to invite them. Let me know what you think. Thanks!!
I would send them something...$25-50...its the thought...if you don't attend...
and I would send an invite....
but I don't think its poor ettiquette to not send the invite...

Re: FH has some 'ettiquete' questions
As yabbobay said...I would send a small gift...$25-$50 is fine...
But, I would not feel obligated to invite them if you weren't planning to originally. JMO.

Re: FH has some 'ettiquete' questions
I agree w/ them. My FH had a high school friend who he lost touch w/ and out of nowhere HE was invited to this friends wedding- 1/2 across the US (w/o me I might add even though they guy knew we were going out for twice as long as he & his fiancee had known eachother). He declined and sent $100 I think and we're not inviting him to ours.

Re: FH has some 'ettiquete' questions
I'm not sure what the 'ettiquete' is, but I don't expect people who aren't coming to my wedding to send a gift. I mean the people who I don't really keep in contact with, but invited anyway. I think it's wierd that they invited you since you haven't spoken in over 2 years. So I don't think it is necessary to send a gift or an invite. But that is my opinion, and probably not what you should do.

I would send a gift. But you only need to invite him if you attend the wedding or if you want to.
Or need to make your minimum. . .

Re: FH has some 'ettiquete' questions
I am not with the majority opinion here - but personally, I don't think it is necessary to send a gift if you are not going to go. I think it depends on your financial situation and your relationsjip with the person. I was invited to 2 weddings of old friends from college who I had not seen or spoken to even in YEARS!! I had conflicts on both dates anyway, but I would not have gone. I did not send gifts - I hadn't spoken to either in a very long time and just because they are choosing to invite me (who knows - maybe I was on their B or C list) doesn't mean I am obligated to do anything. JMO...
