FH is driving me bonkers...

FH is driving me bonkers...

When I asked him how he felt about taking pictures before the ceremony so we wouldn't have to miss our CH he says 'What the heck is a CH??'

He's NEVER heard of one and doesn't understand why we need it...I told him if my Jewish family came to our wedding and there wasn't a CH they'd riot!!

Is there some crazy cultural difference between NY and Ohio that I'm unaware of?

i thought CH's were pretty common.. just explain its the period for ppl to mingle before they are seated...plus it makes sure no one is late for your GRAND ENTRANCE :)

Yes, weddings in the Northeast are unlike anything else in the rest of the country.

My coworker is from a small town in Minnesota, and weddings there consists of people going from the church to the VFW hall for a 2 hour party with finger sandwiches and then cake. The bride throws the BO-K as she hops into a car which the groom is usually driving and they leave for the honeymoon.

So, an LI wedding may seem like a GIANT spectacle to someone not familiar with them.

Oh no...FH has NO idea what he's in for!!

Good thing we are going to a friend's wedding next weekend (he's flying in from OH)...then he'll see what a NY wedding is like!

One of my co-workers got married in Nebraska and another in Ohio ???i think??

Their weddings are no where near like a NY wedding. One had her ceremony and reception in her church. After the mass they went downstairs in coctail dresses and had a brunch. The other got married on his fiancees parents farm where they had some food catered in.

I lived in PA for a little while and even there the weddings are less formal and laid back. My friends who are in my wedding have never worn a gown or a tux before. They are in shock.

I have a lot of family in Indiana, Chicago, and Ohio. Their weddings are NOTHING like ours. My mom went to a wedding in Indiana recently, and she wore a dress that she'd probably wear to a shower or cocktail party here. They are much less formal than NY weddings. It's generally only NY and NJ that do these ridiculously outlandish weddings (unless it's on Platinum Weddings )

ETA: I HAVE been to weddings outside of NY with a cocktail hour. I went to one last year in Virginia that had a cocktail hour, but it was NOTHING like the CH we do here.

Long Island weddings are so different than weddings anywhere else. Cocktail hours don't exist outside of LI.

All of my college friends are from someplace other than NY and they are in for a shock when they come to my wedding. One of my friends from PA got married in a church and we walked next door to have the reception in a gym (think elementary school complete with basketball hoop). they had the church ladies cook the food and they used a computer for the music. another one of my friends got married in PA and they had ceremony and went right to the reception - everyone had the same thing to eat, no choices were given. my uncle got married in Florida and his wedding was in the breakfast nook of the Best Western. they had beer in a cooler and I don't remember any real food. i do remember stopping for ice cream after the reception, which lasted about 2 hours. I also went to a wedding upstate (Elmira) and we went to the basement of the church for the reception then back to someone's house.

NY, esp. Long Island, is a wedding capital. Thats why there are so many halls to choose from! I know when townies come to weddings they are floored by spectacale! A lot of places are simple and its a really great experience for them to see a NY/LI wedding :)

I feel so silly and sheltered now

But...FH wants to marry a NY girl, so he'll have to learn what a NY wedding is all about.

The wedding I went to in NH the CH was 3 passed trays of food with a few veggie platers. NOTHING like what we have here. no wedding like an LI wedding my FMIL couldnt believe all the food we are having at our wedding. FH is from CT.

I'm pretty sure CH are the same...but weddings in other states tend to me ALOT less extravagent in New York.
