fh is FDNY and he hurt his back in a fire about a month ago....so he has been on medical leave and he has been going to pt and the doctors told him he had a herniaded (sp) disc in his back.. so at first we thought he would have to get cortizone shots.. ok not too bad.. then the doc said he might have to get surgury.. ok a little bad... now he goes to the docs the other day and asks when he is going to be fully recovered.....the doc is 'recommending' that he should NEVER go back full duty!
I dont know what I would do.. he would go nuts if he could never be FDNY.....

I'm sorry that most be really hard on FH but it will all work out!!! Back injuries really never get 100% better, I hurt mine when I was 17 and it still bothers me from time to time, but hopefully it will all work out for him!!

backpains dont really just go away.. he has to be really careful in the future.. I know alot of people in that same situation a long time ago and even though its been a long time it hurts alot when doing active things...

I'm so sorry to hear this. Remember the important thing though, you have him. It does suck that he can't do what he loves, but the important thing to realize is how lucky he is that it wasn't worse, and you can live a long happy life together. Maybe he can do other things with FDNY, like paramedic? I know its not the same, but it is important to appreciate what you do have.

i am dealing with a herniated disc and a bulging disc in my back right now, and i can tell you, the pain is awful!!!!
i've had the pain since before the wedding and it was terrible to go through the wedding day like this.
here are some and for your dh, i hope he starts to feel better soon.

I am very sorrry to hear this news.. Back injuris are bad my dad suffers everyday... I' m sorry that Fh will be so upset about this.. My FH is in the January 08 FDNY class.... I worry about them getting hurt

sooo as stubborn as FH is, he went back to the doctors.... once again they 'recommend' him not going back full duty ever, but I think he is going to. He is ok when he is not putting a lot of strain on his back ( and considering he works like 1 day a month ) its not that bad... I told him though that he has to be careful because he needs to make sure he is able to perform if needed..
He is so strong though, always an athlete very muscular, so Im not worried ( sort of!) uugghhhhh
BOYS are SOOOO stubborn!!! why do they stress us out!

Just tell him to be careful cause if he does get hurt at work again they may not cover him (i mean medically, finicially, etc) if the doctor told him not to go back in the 1st place!! Men really are stubborn!!!!!!!!!!

I am so sorry to hear your news. My BF's DH is FDNY and he would feel the same way. See if your DH can get a second opinion. I had a surgeon once tell me I could retire on full disability, that I shouldn't climb anymore. Well it is what I do for a living. Somepeople would have jumped at the chance. I could never sit and do nothing so I got a second opinion and here I am 3 years later back to work full duty! I truly hope your DH's back gets better. If surgery is an option then the doc shouldn't be giving a diagnosis till after the surgery, otherwise why have it if they are not going to fix the problem. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your DH
