FH is refusing to tip anyone at the reception hall.
Gary is refusing to tip anyone at the hall stating that the gratuity is their tip and that's it!
Aren't we supposed to tip the service help even if there is a gratuity?

It seems early to set a hard and fast rule. Gratuities, by definition are for service well done. Why not get a sense of what kind of service you receive, then decide.

I know the tips and gratuity are in the cost of what you are paying your hall for. But I have learned from reading threads on this website that the money does NOT go to those actually working and serving you. (are we all in the wrong business or what?) I have accepted the fact that I will have to tip the workers the evening of my wedding. I don't think it's fair that the servers get stiffed even though I am paying for their gratuity already. They will be working hard (hoepfully) that evening and I want to make sure they are compensated.

I have explained this to him, but he just says that's not his problem. He feels that gratuity is just that and if the hall doesn't pay it to their employees, that's their problem.
What a dodo I am marrying!

I agree with this.
Those working in the catering field look forward to tips. Although, we are paying a gratuity as well, we will be tipping the maitradee & staff working that night. I just know that's what you do. If the service is awful, well then that changes things.

I agree. Discuss a range for the tips and then decide day of service.

the included gratuity (15% to 18%) covers the SALARY portion of the workers ... you wouldn't go to a resturant without tipping a waiter, would you? Does it suck? Yes ... but why punish the waitstaff because the hall is an @$$?

Unfortunately, you're supposed to tip in addition to the 18% 'gratuity' in your bill .....HOWEVER, I am a firm believer in the idea that I DECIDE when and how much I will tip you........DO NOT tell me that I'm required to tip the Matre D $2-3 pp or so on....THAT is just out of line........

Your FH is a cheap skate!!! Tell him its the right thing to do, especially if the staff does a great job and fulfills their obligations.

they usually say it is a service charge and not gratutity for the catering and it is to pay the salary - but i don't even think it all goes to them -
i am not worrying about the waiters - just doing the bartenders and valets because i don't want my guests tipping them (but i will say that if my wedding coordinator sees them taking tips that they will not recieve the tip- pet peeve - i hate tipping at someone elses wedding - i never have pockets for money)- tipping maitre d and bridal attendent - thats it
