FH just pissed me off

FH just pissed me off

I gave FH a list of his friends whose addresses I needed him to get. Apparently two of his friends have 'issues.' They both want us to write 'and guest' on their invitations, not their girlfriends' names, because they're not sure what's going on with the girls they're presently dating (both have been with their respective girlfriend for 2 years.) FH and I had decided way before now that we were not inviting people with dates if they weren't in a relationship. I told FH that their 'and date' only applied if they stayed with their girlfriends. They were not going to be allowed to bring just anyone. Now FH is giving me a problem. The fact of the matter is, my parents are paying for the reception and between FH and his family, their invite list is double what my family's is and they've already gone way over the number I had given them. Maybe I sound like a *****, but if I'm not inviting my single friends with dates than FH isn't going to either.

I totally understand your position and I don't think you sound like an a$$hole at all. Hang in there!

I am going to have the same issue I just know it. And, I, like you should, am standing my ground!!! I want no random people at the wedding. I really don't even want some of the present gf's there so imagine how I will feel about the new one's!!

Just lurking . . But we did a 'no ring no bring' rule. Not sure if this will help in your situation. Good Luck!

FH and I said that if you're not engaged to the person or married we wrote 'and Guest' it was just easier. Yea, I know some of the people that those people will be bringing but I wanted to keep it uniform. It was a hard decision but we talked about the best way to go about it.

If I were you, I'd write the gf's names on the invitations. Who are these people to dictate what their invitations should say? It's not your responsibility to cater to their relationships. Some freaking people!

I just don't see why we should make an exception to the rule for his friends. One of them probably won't bring anyone if he and his girlfriend break up, but the other one is going to insist on bringing someone because one of his exgirlfriends, a close friend of mine, will be there with her boyfriend. It's just stupid and immature. There will be lots of single friends on both of our sides, so it's not like if they don't have a date they'll be on their own. All of their friends will be there.

Agreed (with a standing ovation).

hmmm....I've got to disagree here. I definitely do not like the no ring no bring rule. Knowing how much time I got to spend with each of my guests, some of whom traveled from far and wide to be at my wedding, I don't think it would be fair to make them attend on their own...JMO

But, that's not your question, either, is it? I think if you and your FH agreed beforehand, you have to stick to your guns. I would just put the girlfriends names on it, because that's who you're inviting.

I don't agree with the no ring, no bring rule either..but that is beside the
point. You gave your FIL's and FH a number..THAT IS IT! I would make them stick
to it unless they feel like shelling out the money to cover the extra people

I'm not all for the 'no ring, no bring' rule, but FH and I had agreed only couples who have been dating for a while would be invited with dates, it was the only way we could invite all of our friends. If Fh and I have to have an arguement about this, than so be it, but we made a rule and I'm going to make him, and his friends, stick by it.

I did the very same thing. But I'm receiving RSVPs with both names on the cards now? I take it as if they want their partners names acknowledged. My Q now is do I follow suit, or do I stick to my guns? lol

I agree with you.

I am in a very similar situation with 2 of FH's friends (one of them is a GM). Both invitations have the GF's name on them because we did very few 'and guest' invites. We really only wanted to invite people with a guest if they are serious so in almost every case, the GF or BF's name is on the invite (regardless of whether they live together/engaged/whatever). We felt that at our age, relationships move much faster than they did when we were in our 20's. Heck, my cousin got engaged over July 4 weekend and is getting married in October! No, she's not preggo (as she keeps getting asked) she is just 36 and doesn't want to wait anymore!!
