FH (LOOONG)

Please excuse all my typing errors.

First, I'd like to say, my FH is usually very thoughtful and sensitive and I love him for that.

But tonight he pissed me off and really hurt my feelings and it's 1am, so I can't call anyone about it and I'm really upset.

*Background*
About a month ago, I was talking about my dress shopping plans and I mentioned that for my first trip, I would take my mom since she's on LI, the places I want to go are out east and she's MY MOM. Then I would take HIS mom with me when I went to the city to go to RK since she's in Brooklyn and she's NOT MY mom.

He didn't think that was fair. I said well, too bad. She has a daughter she can go with., I'm my mother's only daughter and I'm not bringing 13 people to my first dress appointment. She can go to the second trip. I'm not picking a dress til I go to at least 3 places if not more so she'll def have a chance to go.
Convo over.

*TODAY*

I spent an hour and a half on the road to pick him up from work in downtown Brooklyn so he wouldn't have to take the train. I was going there for FFIL's birthday, so I picked him up on the way. Were it not for that, I would have gone another way and been there in less than an hour.
In the car, we were talking about the wedding. I told him I had planned on going dress shopping last week of August with my mom and MOH. He was like 'You know, I really hope you're going to include my mother' in a b!tchy tone. The traffic, plus his b!tch voice and the fact that we already settled this and i AM including his mother made me raise my voice, which I don't easily do with him. I said 'What part of your thick skull doesn't get that I AM including her! I'm taking her with me the second time I go, the first time I want to be alone with my mom and MOH!! Why is that a problem?'

He didn't talk to me the rest of the way home.

We get to his house and he went upstairs to change. I explained the whole thing to his mom and said sorry if you're ofended, but I honestly didn't think you would be. She said 'I'm not. I don't have to come with you at all, honestly, you should go with your mom.' And I said thanks, but I DO want her there and that's why I want her to come to RK.
Fine.
SO I'm cool with FMIL.

But b!tchface FH still won't talk to me. Diriving to dinner, at dinner, driving back, at his house, having cake, after his parents went to bed... won't talk to me.
Then, right after his parents go upstairs to bed, he falls asleep on the couch. I tried to wake him up for TWO HOURS so I could go home because he has to put his car in my parking space so his mom can get out of the driveway in the am and he has to set the alarm behind me and lock the door.

He wouldn't get up.

So I had to sit in his house, with him asleep across the room, not talking to me anyway, fro 2 hours. I could have been at home doing crap I needed to get done if he wasn't going tot alk to me.

I'm just so upset becasue,.... if you don't trust me to do the right thing and you feel the need to expalin what's right and wrong to me like I'm a 5 year old (even though you're wrong anyway), then why are you with me? I'm not a baby. I'm not a social retard. I made it through 23 years of life before you, my social graces are just fine, thanks.
The thing of it is, I was going to ask her to go with me whether he asked me to or not because I love FMIL and she does a lot for me and I want her there. He didn't have to tell me to do 'the right thing'.

So upset. It was the first day we had to hang out where I was stress free in WEEEEEEEKS and he ruined it.

//rant. Thanks.

PS, if you read all of this, I owe you a cookie.

First of all, I totally agree with you regarding your decision. My first trip I took ONE bridesmaid (unfortunately my mother is not involved, but that's another story), and I said that if FH's mom wanted to come, she could come AFTER I've chosen a dress. I don't need her opinions on which dress to get.

You only get to do this once with YOUR mom. FH knows that. Some (read: ALL) guys are just babies. They don't want to get off their high horse about opinions and they'll sulk and let you be miserable with them because they have no other way to deal.

Try, try, try not to let this bother you. Of course it's upsetting, but especially since you've cleared the air with FMIL, there really isn't anything to worry about. Let him have his little tantrum and he'll get over it soon enough.

Tomorrow, sit him down and just tell him calmly how important it is to you to experience this with your own mother, and you spoke with his mom as well and she understands that 100%. Ask him what the real beef is and take it from there. He really shouldn't have too much to say, considering his own mother has taken no issue.

Hope you feel better. It sucks to be in this kind of mood with FH upset with you. Going to bed angry is never fun. Sending hugs!

im so sorry your upset. I agree with you 100%!! You should do def take your mom with you first. I did that bc #1 shes my mom and #2 im her only daughter that will be getting married. I dont understand y your FH feels like you have to bring her the 1st time.

I hope everything works out for you...let us know how it goes.

I completely agree with you. There is no reason HIS mother should have to go with you on your first dress shopping trip, especially since she is OK with it. Maybe you can have FMIL just mention it to him that's she's ok with the whole thing and that she thinks you're doing the right thing to calm him down. But I will say I think it's bizarre he freaked out about it to begin with, if his mom isn't upset and it's YOUR time to share with your mother there is no reason for him to act like a child..

Re: FH (LOOONG)

It really has nothing to do with the dress shopping, it's his neurotic obsession with pleasing his parents...

And we're so lucky that neither of us have FIL drama... largely in part because I work hard at my relationship with FIL's... so it really irritates me that he's trying to create drama where there IS none.

I know that she already talked to him when they were outside the restaurant before dinner, and he still didn't say anything to me for the rest of the night. I don't play that way. I'm an adult. And I'm not asking him about it again, so when he wants to come talk to me like a 27 year old, I'll answer the phone, but I'm not going to whine and cry to him about it because there was no problem here to begin with

AAAAAAAH

I'm with you, I don't understand why he made such a big deal if his mom was okay with it. Maybe he was in a bad mood. We all take it out on the ones we are closest to.

He shouldn't have ignored you for such a small issue, especially when you're at his house...doubly awkward.

A few of my friends really wanted to come dress shopping with me but the first time I went, I just took my mom too. I'm her only daughter too and wanted the one on one time before everyone's opinions got involved.

Hopefully he thinks it over and realizes he overreacted andAPOLOGIZES!

I totally agree with you! Your mom should go with you first because she’s YOUR MOM! And that’s great that FMIL didn’t mind at all. I don’t understand why he got so upset over it? Maybe he just had a bad day? You are including FMIL, just not on the first appt, which to me is totally understandable! I am sorry hunnie! I hope it all works out for you!!!

Sorry I do agree with YOU. I don't think you have to include is Mom-maybe if she didn't have another daughther; and you wanted to give her the experience. But it's really about you and you sharing that moment with YOUR mother.

I do think it was a little childish for him to throw a tantrum and not talk to you.

i'm sorry to hear this happened with you and your FH but i completely agree with you. And I the thing is, you are including her, just not on the first run, whihc i think is fine - PLUS your FMIL is okay with it. hopefully your FH has gotten some time to cool off and he'll realize that he was being a big baby about this

Re: FH (LOOONG)

aww I'm sorry. It sucks when they act like this. And honestly who the hell knows what goes on in their minds sometimes.

Your Mom earned that right to be with you to look at dresses. His Mom isn't YOUR Mom regardless of what a good relationship you have.

Being that she's ok with it, I'd just let it go for now. Go with your plans. This is YOUR dress. He's not involved here.

He'll calm down. Sometimes it takes a while for the boys to grow up and stop clutching at mommy's apron strings. It will happen.
