FH sent me this and...

FH sent me this and...

...he liked #6 and #11 the best. I WONDER WHY?!?!?!

ONE. Give people more than they expect and do it cheerfully.

TWO. Marry a man/woman you love to talk to. As you get older, their conversational skills will be as important as any other.

THREE. Don't believe all you hear, spend all you have or sleep all you want.

FOUR. When you say, 'I love you,' mean it.

FIVE. When you say, 'I'm sorry,' look the person in the eye.

SIX. Be engaged at least six months before you get married.

SEVEN. Believe in love at first sight.

EIGHT. Never laugh at anyone's dream. People who don't have dreams don't have much.

NINE. Love ! deeply and passionately. You might get hurt but it's the only way to live life completely.

TEN.. In disagreements, fight fairly. No name calling.

ELEVEN. Don't judge people by their relatives. (mine? his? - I am stumped!)

TWELVE. Talk slowly but think quickly.

THIRTEEN. When someone asks you a question you don't want to answer, smile and ask, 'Why do you want to know?'

FOURTEEN. Remember that great love and great achievements involve great risk.

FIFTEEN. Say 'bless you' when you hear someone sneeze.

SIXTEEN. When you lose, don't lose the lesson

SEVENTEEN. Remember the three R's: Respect for self; Respect for others; and responsibility for all your actions.

EIGHTEEN. Don't let a little dispute injure a great friendship.

NINETEEN. When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.

TWENTY. Smile when picking up the phone. The caller will hear it in your voice.

TWENTY-ONE. Spend some time alone.

Those are great lessons. But I don't know why he woudl choose 6 and 11! I know why my FH would choose #11 though, unfortunately

My guess is that he chose #6 because he is the furthest thing from impulsive while I am a 'go with the gut' person. And Jen, I know that you are marrying into a Jewish family, but FH and I EACH have overbearing, loud and obnoxious Jewish mothers. Do we stand a chance against them? When they let loose on us, we shrivel up like raisins.

I think with a classic jewish mother or MIL, you need a support group for sure!

ETA: We should start one

Allow me to put this into perspective. My mom reminds me of a combination of George's mother from Seinfeld, Marie Barone from '..Raymond', Kyle's mother from South Park and Harvey Fierstein (as I listen to the commercial from FIDDLER). Her heart is very good and sweet though.

and a bunch of

She's a loving mother, that's all that counts!

FH's mom is like what Marie Barone and George's Mom would be like if they had 1/8 the social graces and class of Roseann Conor

Oh dear! I liked Roseanne. She was blue collar but fun and loving.

My mom is great but not always easy to take. I have learned that it is best to appease her wherever I can. Shes 73 years old and not well. Having just lost her life partner of 49 years, she gets miles of slack from us. She deserves it. This wedding allows her to focus on the future and celebrate the children she created with Dad. Though she already has grandchildren, she is looking forward to OUR first child as s/he will be named for my Dad and thus his legacy will continue. So dealing with her mishigas (yiddish for bull poo) is ok for now.

I like Roseann too. I couldn;t think of a good example. At least marie Barone knows how to cook and keep house. MY FMIL has this filthy house, can't cook toast, can't decorate, has NO socail graces, but still finds a way to criticize ME.

Definitely at 73 years old and with all she's been through your mom deserves a lot of slack. I'm so glad she has your wedding to look forward to
