FH still hasn't got his Birth Certificate..UPDATED

As I posted before, FH changed his last name to his Grandfathers (seeing as he never knew his Dad & his Grandfather raised him) and everything was finalized as of 5/30/07.

We sent in all the proper paperwork to the NYC Dept.of Vital Records, and still to date we have nothing back!

I've been calling them everyday since 7/30, and I get the same run around, someone will call you back and they never do!!

So here I sit, again, on hold for the 100th time!

Ladies please say a prayer that I get an answer today or by the latest end of this week!

He cannot get his passport, nor can we get our marriage license until we get the corrected birth certificate!

**UPDATED**

FH's birth certificate came in the mail yesterday afternoon!! Thank you God! Only thing is it looks as if they took his old BC, crossed out his old last name & wrote his new name above it but its signed, stamped and sealed. I called our town hall and they said they would accept it as is & we have an appt. at our local passport agency Monday morning!! Keep your fingers crossed ladies!! I cannot believe we are finally going to be able to apply for our passports & get our marriage license!!

you do not need a birth certificate to get a marriage license all you need is two forms of id and one must be picture. . . . no credit cards though

Try writing to your local Congressman.

I did this when my passport was lost somewhere between Social Security (for changing my name) and my post office.

I faxed a letter to my Congressman, his office looked into it with social security.. and all of a sudden I got a ton of attention.. including tracking numbers (which I had been begging for but were told they did not exist)

exactly. all you need is your driver's license

I checked into this and to get our Marriage License in Eastchester (Westchester County) they told me we had to have our Birth Certificate and DL. Even still, we still need to get his passport for the HM.....

It all depends upon WHERE you go. Town Hall at Smithtown required the birth certificate, photo id and proof of social security number.
NYC does not accept cash, but Nassau and Suffolk counties do.

Call the Town Hall where you planning to get your license and ask their documentation requirements, or look it up online.

I just asked them that on the phone and they said well we can't guarantee that it will have his 'new' last name on the certificate!! They said I could take the chance, come into the city and try it, but they don't have any updated info to know if it has been changed!!

Yes, go right to your congressman! Give them a call, that's what they're there for. I called mine when I was dealing with passport issues. I had the whole situation resolved and documents in hand within hours! I wish I had gone to his office sooner rather than dealing with being on hold with the passport agency I was dealing with. It would've saved me alot of stress.
