I need suggestions and thoughts. FH turns 30 this summer and I need help. All of his friends have had parties out at places for their 30th and I want to do something for FH. BUT...
1. I'm broke considering we'll JUST be settling into our apartment and both paying rent for the first time EVER! 2. I'm going to be in school with finals until the week before and won't have much time. 3. I know his mother isn't going to be any help AT ALL. 4. Again i'm broke. 5. His friend JUST (yesterday) sent an email out to everyone about his wifes 30th bday they are holding at some park which COULD have been an option. 6. Having anything at my house and FH's house is out cuz we don't have the room.
Any other suggestions, thoughts, or opinions? I thought about celebrating with him and obv. taking him out to dinner and stuff and then doing something bigger next year once we are settled in but I dunno. I'd feel horrible that ALL of his friends had something somewhere and I can't even do a freakin' thing for him.
Help! lol

Re: FH's Bday suggestions
I had considered renting out 'The Back 9' at 300 and throwing Mike a surprise 30th there. But that went out the window when I realized his 30th is two weeks before our wedding, lol.
ETA: When is his birthday? Maybe we can combine it, lol

Re: FH's Bday suggestions
First I am SURE he will understand this is a very BIG and expensive summer for you both.
What about just working with a bar you know he likes to get like 2 hours open bar if you guarantee a certain amount of guests. Even if you do it early say 8-10.... bring a cake in and sing and everyone hang. Once the open bar is over then it's everyone for themselves.
Or....
would a mutual friend let you have a BBQ at their house or apt? You bring in the food and drinks and use their place?

Re: FH's Bday suggestions
my FH turned 30 a few months ago and i wanted to do something really nice for him but at the same time i didn't want to spend too much money. so we ended up going away upstate for a night to celebrate his bday together. then a couple of days later, he had all his friends meet up at his fav bar just to hang out.
could you possibly do a bbq at your parents house or something?

Re: FH's Bday suggestions
My friend and her now husband did something that was REALLY cool. They did a combined birthday party at a place in the city that did karakoe. They rented out the back room (they had to lay out the money but all of us had to pay them back - I don't remember how much but I can find out) and we had open bar, I think some food, and it was just use doing karaoke so it was you and your friends and no one else could see or hear you. Just an idea for you. If you are interested let me know and I'll find out the information for it.

Yeah, my FH took me to the borgata and I had a spa day and he gave me a LV bag for my 30th a month early - not sure why he did it so early. . .
a party is a good idea - have one at your house to save money or do a bar party in the city a bunch of bars have a party rate - $25-30 for for drinks 9-12 or something, the people pay their own way.

Re: FH's Bday suggestions
We did a big party for him in a private room at a club and BIG family feast the next day.
FH for my bday this past year just had everyone meet at the allegrias lounge for my surprise bday, which was hilarious!!!
What about McFaddens in RVC? When it was Madison Hall, it was a good space....

Try Studio Square. Send out an evite to all his friends then have everyone meet there. Buy a sheet cake from Costco they are very good by the way. Buy a few pitchers of beer and put on table and let the people continue to pay as they go when the pitchers run out. That's what I did for my FH. You can get some balloons put on table and walla there's your party.

umm... lol no. First off I could never ask for them. Second, FH would KILL me if I spent our weddings gifts on another 'party'.

i was going to say this too. my fh is turning 30 so i have the same problm.
actually i might steal the idea
my idea for my FH is to have a big BBQ in the park and organize a volleyball game. he's that superactive kinda guy.
