FH's grandma passed away yesterday

FH's grandma (FMIL's mom) passed away last night. I really liked her and felt badly and of course, I'm concerned about FH.

But, as you know, my own mom passed away five years ago and I've had big problems with FIL's and their lack of compassion. I know this sounds absolutely horrible, but when it came to my feelings for FMIL in the situation she's now in, I had none.

My first reaction was good. Now she knows how I've been feeling. Good. Now she can relate to me. Good. Now my wedding will be bittersweet for her, too.

I feel really bad that I feel this way. I swear, I'm not a horrible person...

Awh- sometimes loss can make up bitter, but your stronger than that. It hurts no one but you. I am sorry for the loss and just stay true to who you are, but your feelings are completely understandable.

Don't feel guilty for admitting to your feelings. That's what they are, feelings/emotions. When my sister's father died, I have to admit, I felt a sense of relief because he emotionally tortured me for years and I was 21 and starting a whole new chapter in my life...and this was like the ultimate resolution for me. I felt bad that I felt that way because my sister obviously was hurting (she was 10), but I also couldn't help but feel relieved. When people hurt us, sometimes, we find joy in their pain...which seems cruel and cold...but it's really a part of human emotional healing.

awww... just focus on your FH's pain. He must be hurting, especially close to the wedding.

And I'm sorry for your loss, too, since you said you did like her.

Maybe this loss will add some humane feelings to your inlaws as to how you must be feeling right now, too...

I'm so sorry to hear the news. FH is currently going through the same thing losing his grandmother!

You're not a horroble person at all! I think anyone would feel the same way in your situation.

I'm sorry about your mom and the way your FMIL treated you in regards to that.

Oh no, I'm so sorry for your FH's loss!! It's understandable to feel the way you do about your FMIL, but don't let that get in the way of being there for your FH.
