The FDNY is sending a lot of men down there to help. He'll know later today if he has to go. If he goes he'll be down there for about a week.

I agree... you should be proud that he would be helping out with such a devastating situation! I know it will be tough without him, but think of the good he would be bringing to so many people.

don't worry hun. it's only a week, and right now they need him more than you do...I know it ***** to hear but, honey- you have a hero on your hands 24/7. he'll be home before you know it.
my cousin's fh was deployed there for 2 months! (NAVY) and he JUST came back from the persian gulf after 8 months, so she's REALLY sad!

oh no i'm not upset that he may have to go, I would be nervous with all thats going on thats all. I'm very proud of my hero. If he has to go, he has to go.

A week isn't too bad, he'll be back before you know it. You don't have anything to worry about, he'll be doing a great service down there. Keep us posted on the situation!!

I got an email from my ambulance corps saying that they will soon be looking for EMT's to go down there... if we go its a month-long assignment, and all we are allowed to take is one backpack and are not guaranteed any shelter. Of course I am a volunteer, so no one has to go.. also because we are volunteers we would not get paid for the month we would have to take off for work. I thought about it and although I really want to help, I don't think I could do it. Am I a bad person?

I don't believe my FI is getting any extra pay for it. If he's asked he's voluntarily going there.
i haven't heard if he's going or not except that if he does go he has to stop in atlanta first to get all kinds of shots to prevent disease from all the wastes and dead bodies.

Its definitely a deplorable situation, and if your FH goes, you should be very proud of him. I understand how worried you will be though. Its so tough, but wonderful to have heroes like him out there.

I know its hard to be away from each other but be proud he is there helping out the ones who need it more then we do jsut remember how thankful we were when people came from all over to help us out when 9/11 happend. It was great to see all those people come and help and The people in New orleans need all the help they can get now
Good luck to him he is doing a great job and I am very proud

My BIL almost had to go. He drives the MERV truck for EMS. He is doing a good thing. You want level headed people down there now.

That will be tough for him but just think of how many people he will help. I think all of the volunteers are so incredible for helping out. Let us know what happens!

i know a few guys who are going. so far my FH isn't heading down. but I guess we shall see what happens.
coming from someone who hasn't ever lived in the same state as their FH, I feel your pain. you are right, a month is a long time.
i know how you feel - absolutley proud but a little sad too!

a friend of mine who is a plumber is might be going there as well his company is sending a bunch of people to help out as well
Just remember how many people other states and how many people came together for NY when 9/11 happend now its our turn to repay for the help they sent us

Yes, I saw on the news this morning that FDNY is bringing 'The pride of Louisana,' the truck donated by the Louisana Fire Depts. after 9/11. That gave me goosebumps when I heard it.
