fighting with my dad
AHHHHH what a way to end the year. My dad and I had a huge fight about the wedding. He offered me money a year ago, and has recinded his offer. This is why FH and I may cancel our Honeymoon. My dad screamed at me for having such an expensive wedding, meanwhile I have paid for EVERYTHING including my eparty. I am so disappointed yet again. FH warned me that he word was no good a year ago. I should have listened. Now, I guarantee my dad wont talk to me for a while.PS-I am certain his new wife convinced him not to help us out with our wedding. Now I dont even want her there!
Sorry to vent, I am just so upset.

Re: fighting with my dad
Sorry to hear you had a big fight. Hopefully after you both take some time to calm down, you can straighten things out.Me and my real father fight all the time.I don't understand him.He can be very insulting. He's very sick though now and we are both trying to get along better. He wasn't able to make the wedding because he lives out of state and is sick.No matter how much we argue at times,I know that really bothered him.
I hope everything gets resolved soon.

Re: fighting with my dad
Hi Christy,I wouldn't worry about your dad - give it time and things will calm down.
For now, I would scrimp and save every dime and pay for it yourself....you'll be surprised at how much you can save if you really try.
Count on your and your FH's money to pay for it. If Dad ends up offering money at a later date it will be a pleasant surprise.
I am paying for my wedding....FH is putting his money towards a house. If I can pay for a wedding at Flowerfield on my small salary I'm sure you can too!!!! I have faith in you Christy!!!!!

Re: fighting with my dad
Glad to see I am not alone in this - as some of you know, my father offered $$ and then reneged. All I can say is hang in there and hold your head high, Christy. We don't yet have a honeymoon either and I'm not sure we will....

Ladies thank you for your posts, they really helped me out. FH and I have paid for everything so far, we will just continue to do so. We can only do what we can do right! Thanks for your words, and for those in the same situation hang in there. We will all make it through right? LOL

Re: fighting with my dad
I dont know if this will make you feel any better, but here is what happened to me before my wedding. My dad didnt exactly approve of my DH (FH at the time) but still offered to pay for our wedding. We made all sorts of lavish plans. The day after New Years, my dad made a 'New Years resolution' to break us up, and pull all his money out of the wedding. Late I find out that he ever had any intentions of paying for the wedding or even standing by and letting it happen- he intended to break it up from the start! So e got our hopes up and let us start making plans only to take it all away. Why? Because he felt that my FH did not make enough money and would not support me well enough.
Sadly, my father and I are still not on speaking terms, and he did not attend the wedding that my DH and I paid for all by ourselves. But we were very proud of our beautiful wedding and the fact that we did it without anybody's help.

Christy,So sorry about you and your dad. I am sure as time goes on it will get straightened out. Is there anything else you can cut back on rather than a honeymoon? It all works out in the end, so dont worry!

Re: fighting with my dad
Jeanna I am sorry to say this but your dad doesn't sound like a very nice person. You should be with who makes you happy and loves you endlessly whether you live in a mansion or in a shoe box. I don't understand why some parents prefer to argue with their children rather than see their child in complete happiness.Christy it will all work out for you. If you can't take a big honeymoon you can always do a mini-one. Good Luck

Re: fighting with my dad
I kind of know what your going through. I'm having problems with my dad too.He wants me to live with my FH before he puts any money down on my vendors. Luckily for my mother, I have down payments on DJ, Flowers, Photographer and my dress.
I wont be getting the money will March/April and my wedding is in November

Re: fighting with my dad
Christy,I am soooooo sorry to hear of your troubles with your dad. I hope things work out for you even if that means paying for the wedding yourselves which you have done up to this point. I hope you don't have to cancel your honeymoon. What about going on a different honeymoon. A week in the Poconos maybe?

Re: fighting with my dad
Christy, so sorry to hear about the fight with your dad. You and FH should be so proud of yourselves for all you've paid so far---Like the others said, maybe plan a honeymoon on a lesser scale-although I'm not sure what you had planned....I guess my advice to you would be to go ahead as if he is not giving you the money and then like someone else said-if he does wind up changing his mind, it will be a pleasant surprise! I hope it all work out--that goes for the other brides who are going through the same thing....it's a shame
