FIL Issues

FIL Issues

Okay, I think I need to vent and get some feedback on FMIL problems I'm having.

FH and I are paying for and organizing this wedding ourselves. My parents gave me the money I would have had for a wedding awhile ago for graduate school several years ago. With no FH on the horizon at the time, I took it, and was so glad they offered, and it helped me tremendously.

His family has offered no $$ for the wedding, which honestly, I would be okay with. What bothers me is the lack of help from his parents end overall, and lack of communication with my family. My parents live out of the area, and they have not met yet. My mother wrote a lovely letter to my FILs, and they did not even respond! FH asked about it, and his mother seemed surprised that this was necessary. He asked if she would help me write the invitations (she does calligraphy), and she said no rather vehemently. Granted, it's a lot of work, but a more polite no would have gone over better with me. Awhile ago, she mentioned helping with decorations, but when I brought it up recently, she had changed her mind. Now, they seem to be dragging their heels on the rehearsal dinner as well, and I think FH and I might need to organize (and pay for) that as well. There have been other little things, but those are the main ones.

My FIL have generally been pretty uninvolved in their son's life from what I can tell, so I don't feel as if this is unusual behavior on their part, but I wish they would at least organize a small rehearsal dinner and respond to my parent's letter! I think I need to bring this up with FH, but how to do it without trashing his family?

Re: FIL Issues

Wow it was like I was reading a page out of my own book. I have the same problem. FIL are very uninvolved, they are very uninvolved parents in general. They did offer to give us the reherrsal dinner and what a mistake. It started out at a restaurant, then it went to the firehouse catered and now it is at the firehouse with some guy that we don't even know cooking food. I can't stand them. All I can say is Good luck and I hope everything works out for you.

Wow, I'm sorry to hear you are having the same problems. I just don't understand these people! My family has problems, but they've always been supportive of any large life-changing events.

At least FH is not like them, as I'm sure your FH is not as well. Thanks for writing!
