So on top of all this other sh*t in my life w my grandpa, my FILs say I'm OBLIGATED to be the godmother of FHs 13yo 2nd cousin. Excuse me?? I don't even know this girls name and ya know what? I bet that they don't know mine either. Aaaand, I'm not catholic!! A christian yes, but not of catholic denomination.
We never see them for holidays or birthdays. Only weddings and quinceneras.
So a big F* You to them!!
Vent over, but may come back for part 2 lol

Re: FIL vent!!
they need to ASK you to be a godmother ... and if you don't want to accept, you don't have to! (there was actually a funny King of Queens episode about that)
that's really annoying that they think you are obligated to do it!
hang in there ...

Re: FIL vent!!
Actually, I think if you are not of Catholic denomination, you can't be the god parent. I think, not sure, coz lately every church seems to be doing things differently from each other.
So I think you can get out of it. HTH

Re: FIL vent!!
Can you even do that if you're not Catholic? Why you specifically?
And why does a 13 year old need a god mother? They waited 13 years to get her baptised? And do you get a godparent when you're that old?
LOL, so many questions, nothingmakes sense!!

Yes, you can be a godparent if you are not catholic, I believe only 1 godparent actually has to be catholic., as when I was just recently baptised, I only needed to provide info for 1 of my godparents. Why did they say you are obligated to do it?

Re: FIL vent!!
She wasn't baptized at birth and now that its time to start planning her quince, she needs to have been baptized. So that's why they're doing it now.
FHs cousin (the girls father) asked FH if we could both be her godparents. and I said hell NO! But my fmil says we need to keep peace in the fam and me saying no will stir sh*t up.
I'm the godmother of FHs niece, but I agreed cuz that's my niece and my fsil understands that I'm not religious and have different (yet similar) beliefs.
We think they asked us bc we are the only ones of this generation to be educated and have stable careers. Not that we have $, cuz we don't, but they think we do. No other reason makes sense, they have much closer family. As I said, we never see them.
I told FH and FILs that if they want to see obligation, oh boy will they!!
