Film VS Digital

Film VS Digital

My fiance and I have visited some photographers already. We noticed some shoot with traditional film while others use a digital camera.
1)Which comes out better?
2)Which is cheaper?
3)Which lasts longer?

What do most photographers prefer and is it too early for digital camera technology to be used?

I think this is a question that you should post on the vendor board to see what they have to say. Happy planning.

Edited to say, I just saw your post on Vendor board, hopefully you get the answer you are looking for. I see one response there already

Digital is GREAT for putting them on the net... like LIWeddings Generally 35MM or similar comes out cleaner when using blowing them up to like 5x7 or 8x10. Im not sure which is cheaper or lasts longer.

I have both cameras... well I have 2 digital and 4 35MM... (I love photography) and for pictures that I want to save and are important to me I take 35MM... to me they just come out better. Hope I helped. I know I ramble but I know what I mean to say

Digital technology is relatively new, and is not the only way to get your pictures electronically. IMHO, film is still the safest choice. Nearly all high-end photographers continue to use film. Digital is generally less expensive.

FH is a hobby photogrqapher and digital has come a long way. Victoria's Secret's Catalog for example is ALL digitally photographed now.

I've seen FH's prints blown up to 11x14 without any loss of detail and the difference between the 35mm and the digital isn't even noticeable. However I would question their longevity, considering that getting archival quality prints *I believe* is something that is a hand process and something that requires film.

Professional photographers that photograph in digital are going to be using top of the line eqipment, not the standard point and click digicam that's sold to the average consumer.
These are cameras that cost upwards of $6000 and lenses that can easily top $10,000.

There are pros and cons for both but I think that quality of the actual picture isn't one of them if your dealing with someone that has a good reputation. You might want to check out this forum:

dpreview.com
which is a professional digital photographers forum. I'm sure they'd be able to help you weigh out the benefits vs. the drawbacks.

I'm definitely a fan of digital. I checked out both and fell in love with my photographer's work. It's totally safe .. I get all my pictures for free on a CD so I can print copies at any time. The quality of her pictures comes out great cuz she uses a great lab. Also, all my proofs will be online a week after the wedding .. so even before we're back from our honeymoon.

It's definitely new but in my opinion it's the way to go

Re: Film VS Digital

I'm so old-fashion and not computer savvy at all. I opted for film, although my photographer did take some in digital.
