FIL's vent

FIL's vent

I know I don't post much but i just had to vent my frustrations.

Last night I had dinner at my in-laws and my FMIL started asking how things were coming along with the wedding. Then out of the blue she says
'The two of you should have had a smaller wedding, like 60 to 80 people. You are wasting so much money.'
This is coming from the woman who told me last week that I should invite more people b/c she was afraid that we weren't going to meet our room minimum.
4 weeks before the wedding and a year and half of planning she says it will be alright to have a small wedding. Meanwhile I have been stressing out this whole time because we are spending all of our money and what we really wanted was a house. Plus my parents have pretty much put retirement and renovating their home on hold for a while to help us out with the wedding.

Now I'm totally upset b/c I could have been married last summer like I originally wanted but I had to wait until March so I could afford to have this big wedding that is about to take place in 4 weeks. I'm so mad. And this is just one of the many things that FIL's have said to us about our wedding that have upset me.

I'm sorry to hear this. I have a FMIL that has comments about everything too. She is very negative..but I try my best to brush it off and just yes her to death or tell her no we'll do it this way. It gets VERY annoying though.

Just ENJOY the most special day of your life and don't let them bother you. Easier said than done, I know

Ignore her. Your wedding is 4 weeks away you have too much to do and the last thing you need is this nonsense.

I guess we all could learn the art of ignoring stupid comments from our FMIL! Just do your thing and enjoy your last few weeks as a bride! I feel for you though! Comments like this really hurt and upset those who put some much time, money and effort into the even!

Hey, I am also a Milleridge Bride and also in March! It’s such a beautiful place, it’s going to be wonderful! Best of luck!

I think I'm glad my FMIL lives in Ireland!

I'm so sorry that you had to listen to that. Sometimes, I think that FIL's think they can say whatever they want, and that it's not going to upset us. WRONG!

I would just ignore her- I'm sure you will have a wonderful day!

Now I know why I stopped going over to my FIL's house. I can't wait till this is over. I know my FH was upset b/c he din't say a word last night. I think he stopped himself from blowing up at his mom b/c we are so close to the wedding. I guess he finally realized that his parents are a little nutty.

Try to brush it off. FMIL apparently is having senior moments if she changes gears like that. Very frustrating for you. Try to keep the main thing the main thing--you are getting married and do the best you can to ignore stupid comments. Stick together--you and FH, he probably feels a little embarrassed at having nutty parents as well.
