I know this is going to sound awful, but I don't know any other way to put it... Ideally, I'd like to have no more than 200 people at the wedding (I originally wanted 150 people, but FH knows everyone and their mother AND his family is huge). if I send out 234 invites, do you think that is possible?

Re: Final guest list question
Yes it could be possible. If you go on the 20% guide you are looking at 188 people. If you go on 10% to be safe you will be 211 (not too far off).
ETA: Just be prepared for everyone to respond yes.

Re: Final guest list question
We based our entire budget around 200 so I would like to come in at that (ideally under ) but we ended up with 234 total, same as you. We're crossing our fingers and hoping for some no's.

Re: Final guest list question
Danielle, how many people in that 234 are family? My reason for asking - at least in my family, no one says no to a family member's wedding. My list is approximately 85% family, and even those who are not family are very close friends. I know they say 20% don't come, but I've looked at my list a hundred times, and I know of like 10 people who may not come. Unless 20 more people have prior commitments or last minute issues, I'm going to have only a 7-10% NO list. Just something to think about.

So this might sound more horrible - but in order to keep our count down - i was thinking of sending out some of the invitations a little later to some people in hopes that they already have plans and cant make it. im so bad

Re: Final guest list question
we originally wanted only 70-80 people, guest list went to 114. so far, we only have 6 no's, and expect maybe 4 more. we were hoping for 90 with the amount we invited, but everyone is saying yes except for out of country people. even people we thought would say no, who we invited because we felt obligated to, said yes. it's possible, but you'd be surprised at how many people do say yes.

I would love for everyone to come, but when I first asked FH for a list, he said, I'll have no more than 40 friends and then a year later handed me a list of 60 people. So i guess we should have done a better guestimation to begin with!

Good point. Between the two of us, about 140 are family and the other 90 or so are friends...

Yikes! I am in your same situation.I personally think its a roll of the dice....I know in my situation since I am getting married out of town there are tons of people on my list i thought wouldn't come but they've already booked hotel rooms! You just never know! I guess you'll have to just pray for the best?

Re: Final guest list question
234 invites?? that would be over 400 people
of you invite 234 people, you will lose at least 10%

Re: Final guest list question
We're in kind of the same boat....the max for our room is 230....and our current list is 241. I'm really nervous about sending invites to more people than can even fit in the room, so I think we're going to cut it down to 230 and send those invites....even though I know there are some invites that are being sent that are *almost* a guaranteed no (older relatives who don't really travel or go to functions any more, friends who we are inviting with guest who probably won't bring anyone)....FH is going to have to cut some of his friends but I know he doesn't want to....I'm trying to tell him as soon as we get those 10 no responses he can send those invites....but we'll see....we were really hoping to come in more like 215, but I feel the same way that almost everyone will say Yes--we're both the first in our families to get married, and also the first amongst our friends....ah!

Re: Final guest list question
it's possible...we sent out around 350-360...we expected the worst and thought 340 would come (our room max)...we ended up with 287.

Re: Final guest list question
they say that between 20-30% wont attend.
We are inviting 225 and hoping for no more than 165
I think the % depends on your family and friends. My friend invited like 115 and got almost 100% but it was obviously close fam only.
