Final Payments

When are your final payments due for most vendors?

I figured it out yesterday and the DJ, limo and video all have a large payment due the DAY OF the wedding. It seems kind of crazy to carry around like $4000 (including Maitre'd and tips) doesn't it?

If your payments are due on the DAY OF are you paying earlier instead?

We plan on paying a few days before, same day I go to make my final hall payment. the day of the wedding will be too hectic!

We paid our limo & video a day before the wedding and the band day of. If you are going to pay day of, I would make sure to put the $ in envelopes and designate someone trustworthy to hand out, so you don't have to worry about it. Maybe a family member or close friend.

check before on your contracts carefully. My friend did not read in the fine print that the band would only accept CERTIFIED CHECKS on the day of the wedding. Her wedding was a sunday so while she was getting ready, her brother and father were driving around frantic to get to the only bank opened on a sunday- it was miles away!!!! I would do it a few days before....

My hall payment is due 3 days before. Certified check only. Dj is due on the wedding night. Photographer is half of balance left 3 weeks before and then the remainder after my proofs are done.

It does seem like alot of money to be carrying around the day of the wedding. I'm sure most of them wouldn't mind being paid early.

We will do a few days before as well...its not like I have pockets to hold that money! LOL

Well, as of now we have close to 10K the day off, including makeup/hair, tips, full band payment and a big chunk of the photo payment, and most likely a florist. We plan to put a little dent into the band and photo payments a week or two before, but most likely will still have close to $5K the day off.
And it will be safely hidden, the grandma way.

final payment on the hall is due almost 3 weeks before..

I am just starting to book vendors (just booked the hall last week) and reading this thread makes me think... Where's the love, where's the trust?

Vendor's ask us to trust them with our wedding day, one of the most important days of our lives, and yet nobody takes credit cards? Hello?! Does anybody else find that ironic? Just think how easy it would be to have them process everything days/weeks before the wedding taking away a little extra stress for the bride.... I guess we can dream

I did go to the Watermill with 7k in cash all in marked envelopes. I guess I wanted to make sure I got what I ordered! It was a little nerve wracking. My dad ended up locking it in his car until the end of the day. People who only take cash can definately negotiate on price - lots of there $ is not reported I'm sure....
