Finally Heard from the Inn!

Original post by DavaDay

After a week of waiting, and checking my e-mail literally every 15 minutes since last Thursday, I got the proposal from the inn in Connecticut yesterday! FINALLY!!! You all know how nuts I was going. I really love the place, and ever since we saw it a month ago, it was the only place FH and I can see ourselves at, but we weren't sure if we could afford it. Well...

It's $10 per person LESS than we thought it would be!! $129 pp (before tax & tip), but that's for a 5 hour reception, with all 5 hours open bar, a butlered cocktail hour, dinner buffet with salad, appetizer, and 3 main courses. Plus, butler-passed cold drinks for my guests as they wait outside for the ceremony to start, champagne toast, and use of the whole inn (2 living rooms, a pub, front porch and back deck / backyard) for 3 days, just for our party. And for opening the pub for us for the afterparty, and bartending there until 4 in the morning, if that's what we want. We're only expecting about 70 people, so $129 is totally within our budget. YAY!!!! I was so scared that the innkeeper would raise his price on us for 2008, but instead, he gave us a better deal than for 2006 (maybe because we're booking so far ahead?).

Anyway, this pretty much seals the deal - this is it! We're gonna book!

And you are not being selfish at all...people get a weekend away and if for any reason they do not want to shell out that type of money they can look for a hotel in the area that offers a 1-night stay.

Actually, that's the problem - the only other hotels within a 40 minute drive are other B&Bs that also require a 2-night stay in the summer (very standard for B&Bs everywhere). They'd have to drive all the way to Great Barrington, Massachussets for an EconoLodge. I guess, though, if they really couldn't afford it, they would just drive back home that night (2 and a half hours)?

Re: Finally Heard from the Inn!

Have you tried throwing it out there to those that you would be inviting (someone that would give you an honest opinion, but if they don't like the idea won't bite your head off and make you feel like an ***...but someone who will be honest and not just tell you they like it no matter what??)

Personally I go to people's weddings and do what I need to do. I've gone to weddings upstate (and drove home b/c I had another wedding the next day). I've gone to Staten Island. This april I'm going and have gone to nebraska. I've gone to chicago, I've gone to indiana, i've gone to jersey. So I personally think the important people will be there no matter what, and maybe you could talk to the guy about a special rate for people that book early?!?!? People always feel better about things when they are getting a deal.

Re: Finally Heard from the Inn!

Thanks Chrissy, you're making me feel better.

This is why I'm having a small wedding - only expecting 65-75 people, and only inviting my closest family and friends, people who I know would travel anywhere to see me get married. People who I'd go anywhere for. I did ask around, and they're all telling me it's ok (especially with a year and a half notice) but I didn't know if they were just being polite and would back out when the time came. My FH calls me a pessimist all the time, and maybe he's right!

Honestly I don't blame you. With trying to get our minimum and all I kept saying people aren't going to come that you would have guarenteed would, and just kept wanting to keep the number as low as we could because I didn't want to have agida for the next two years.

Being that you are inviting your closest family and friends only and they all seem open and receptive it sounds like you are on the right road. You have to remember to keep that pessimistic person in there to keep your fairy tale under control, but don't forget to find the optimist so you can make your dream happen and give credit to those that will come and be supportive along the way!!!!

Like I said, you saw my list of where I traveled to, and I'm probably going to have to go to Nebraska twice next year it's looking like. So go with the flow and see how your lil trip up there goes with your dad!!!!!!!

I know! Thanks, Jenn! Maybe life will get back to normal now... until I find a new obsession to lose sleep over. I'm thinking gowns. Maybe flowers?
