do u mind explaining what a ketubah is for? i see several brides mentioning purchasing them, I know it's for a jewish wedding, but i'd be curious in finding out a little more..

sure
in modern times it is more traditional than the 'literal' meaning - it is a jewish marriage contract (license) - in olden days, it was to protect the bride financially if the couple was to split
similar to catholics; they would need a dispensation from the church - a jewish bride would need a similar paper - i forget the name of it
but i'm not getting married in a temple so it doesnt really m atter

A ketubah is a Jewish marriage contract. It states that the husband commits to provide food, clothing and companionship to his wife, and that he will pay a specified sum of money if he divorces her. If he dies and leaves her as a widow, she can collect the Ketubah money from his estate.

thanks!! i never knew that!! that's cool.. so do you sign that like you sign the marriage license in front of your witnesses? or is it displayed? or does your rabbi read it to everyone?

the rabbi signs it, bride and groom sign and 2 witnesses one for bride, one for groom

sometimes the rabbi explains it at the ceremony and holds it up to show the guests
