Finally saw Mom today

Original post by Goldi1021

I spoke to Mom on the phone before the visit today. (Yesterday she was sleeping when I got to her). She seemed sort of motivated about getting the heck out of rehab and going home. She told me that her legs may not be strong enough to walk me down the aisle but that she'd be in a chair under the chuppah waiting for me and my brother so she will SEE us. I said that was fine with me - that I just needed her there. I also told her that we turned our lives around to take care of her and we will continue to do so forever - no matter how cranky she gets. BUT it isnt fair to expect us to do this if she does not generate the will to want to get out from where she is. She MUST do her exercise and she MUST do HER part to get well.

This is of course after my sister told me there is a teeny tiny chance that if she is in the unit she is now at the time of the wedding, they will not release her for the day and allow her to come back. That would mean she wouldnt be able to come to the wedding without compromising her care and we can't do that. THIS is why it is critical for her to do ALL of her therapies (OT and PT) so she can get placed in a less restrictive environment.

All of this on my head with my wedding date one month from today. I lost it on the phone crying in hysterics with FH and I feel like someone came up to me and sucker punched me in the gut. I gave mom pictures and a wedding invitation to look at to inspire her to do well but I am not so sure it will work. I think she believes, as everyone says 'it will all work out'. But everyone else is not me. I made peace with the fact that Dad isn't going to be there. I need ONE parent. This is not the typical bridal woes that I am supposed to have. This isnt about colors or dresses or wacky BMS with a screwed up temperament. This is hardcore serious stuff. MOM will have missed both of my fittings (one is on Friday). MOM will miss my appointment with my florist tomorrow. Mom will miss the meetings with the caterer. It $ucks and it hurts.

I'm so sorry you are going through this. We are all here for you. Please know you are entitled to feel the way you do - you are planning to celebrate the happiest day of your life and you want those who are most precious to you to be there to do the same. I'll pray extra hard that your mom is with you on your special day.

Its weird, it is so unlike me to sit here feeling sorry for myself but I am.

You are allowed to feel sorry for yourself once in a while. You are going through a VERY tough time, it's understandable.

I hope everything works out and your mom can be present at your wedding. It's not fair that during a time that is supposed to be so joyous you have to deal with challenges.

Atleast you can be thankful your mom has made it to where she is now and there is a chance she will be there waiting for you as you walk down the Aisle.. don't lose that little bit of hope - it's all you have left.

My mom past away when I was younger and there is nothing that is going to change the fact that she wont be there at my wedding..... My deepest sympathy goes out to you because I know how it feels to plan a wedding with out a mom or parents.

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I'm thankful that she made it out of surgery and she is on her way to recovery.
I'll pray that she conjures up the will she needs to be with you on your day.

yes, this really *****.... is there a social worker at the rehab? if there is maybe you can get in to talk to them... explain what's happening... maybe they can go speak with her to help instill some motivation for you....

Have you talked to the staff at the rehab center? Do they know the situation? Why wouldn't they let her leave for the day? Maybe you could hire a nurse for the day to help if it comes to that..

There are social workers and various administrators who are fully aware of our situation. The reason why they would not let her out for the day is because the unit she is in is considered a hospital unit and not technically a nursing unit that gives out passes. Once she leaves, they cannot and will not be held accountable for her health. Any other setting would allow it. Odds are that she will not even be there (where she is right now) at the time of the wedding and it will be fine but you never know. All it takes is a set back and we could be back at square one.

Thanks for your continued support.
