Finally starting planning....

Well girls, I finally got my act together....

FI and I looked at the Carltun this weekend. They have both dates we are toying with open, but we are going to keep looking some more. I want to walk into a place and know immediately that is it. Is that how you girls picked your place? Did you knwo the moment you walked inside? We haven't totally nixed the Carltun, just want to look around a bit more.

Fine, so I didn't actually plan anything, but we started looking...

Just wanted to share. Any comments on how you picked your location would be great.

Re: Finally starting planning....

Before I started looking I had a few things in my head that I definately wanted....one wedding at at time, reputation for good food, near the water, etc.

I went to many places and some as soon as I walked in I walked right back out because I knew it wasn't the feel I was going for. When I finally walked into my hall it was exactly how I envisioned my wedding to be so I knew I had to have it there : ).

Good luck and enjoy looking...this was one of my favorite parts!!!

Re: Finally starting planning....

I had a place in mind, but thought it was too much money, but soon as i walked in I knew, and when they told me the price, I cried, because it was cheaper then I had thought, and I booked on the spot.

Re: Finally starting planning....

I knew instantaneously, it feels like you can see you wedding going on in your head in the room. I am having my reception at Terrace on the Park in Flushing queens, and my fiance and I just knew. I was wearing jeans that day and I still felt like a pricess the ballroom was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen and it wasn't even decorated or anything. Ok i am going to stop gushing now but you get the idea

Though definitely make sure you don't get carried away ,likes brides can sometimes do ,and go overbudget, don't let the vendors know how much you like it, and I wouldn't recommend booking the same day.

LOTS OF LUCK

Re: Finally starting planning....

We booked the first place we looked out - only after looking at 10 more places! We knew it was the right place for us, but we still wanted to look around just to be sure! Best of luck!

Re: Finally starting planning....

I can honestly say that I walked into a few places knowing immediately that there was no way I would have my wedding there, but I never walked into ANY place saying THIS IS IT! It was always this COULD be it...but that just may be because I don't make any big decisions without really over-thinking them.

Since we're getting married at our hall, we made our decision by which place had the best worst-case-scenario if it rains. Many places had beautiful grounds for outdoor ceremonies and cocktail hours but I didn't like the indoor areas. The place we picked has beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces.

Good luck!

Re: Finally starting planning....

FH and I looked at 6 places total before booking the North Ritz - we went two separate days - one of the first three - was a really big maybe - and then the second day - each was better than the last - but i still had that little inkling of not quite THE ONE - until we walked into the North Ritz - my jaw dropped and i knew that was where we were having our reception.

I didnt go looking with any specific criteria - i wanted to have the feeling of THE ONE!

Re: Finally starting planning....

The Carltun is beautiful....good luck with your search. I got married at the Glen Island Harbour Club....I knew this was the place from the age of 16.

Re: Finally starting planning....

Congrats Kim - let the FUN begin!!!

We went looking with a few things in mind - wanted only one affair at a time, wanted a hotel either within walking distance or just have it at a hotel, wanted something intimate, something where we could bring our personality to the place rather than have the decor of the place dictate decoration for us, something simple and elegant.

I felt like eroxgirl did when we were looking:

I can honestly say that I walked into a few places knowing immediately that there was no way I would have my wedding there, but I never walked into ANY place saying THIS IS IT! It was always this COULD be it...

Re: Finally starting planning....

Thanks girls! My search is on. I hope I walk in and think, 'this is it!' but who knows. I also hope I try on 5 dresses and say, 'this is the one!' but not likely..lol

I am trying to narrow my searches down so I don't waste time, we will see where we go from here.

Re: Finally starting planning....

The first place I looked at was Flowerfield and said 'This is it..I don't want any place else!' We looked at one more and we both agreed and booked Flowerfield that weekend.
I hope you find everything you are looking for!
