Re: finding an appartment
The last time I was apartment hunting, I REALLY needed to move ASAP ... so we spent a weekend and made appointments with a bunch of real estates and found one that weekend.
But its , usually 1 months rent is the fee to the agent.
Maybe try posting on the Home board or even on LIF?

I was just going to suggest that. Some of them come with pics so you can get an idea of what the place looks like before going out there to look and wasting your time on a dump. One time I went to look at an apt. and I had a dog at the time. The guy brought me to a place and I stepped in and stepped right out, looked at the guy and told him that I wouldn't let my dog live here.

Re: finding an appartment
pick a couple towns you like, and drive around them.... we found the perfect apartment 3 years ago by driving down main st and literally seeing 'for rent' scribbled on a paper that was stuck to the building door We've been happily settled here since then!
