FMIL wants to buy our Fine China for us for our engagement party...She is taking me shopping in a few weeks. The set i think I want is $150/place setting and then there are all the additional serving pieces....I feel bad telling her that I want 16 settings.
Should I give her a lower number and then register for the remaining? I'm afraid that she will be bothered if I do that, but I feel bad having her spend so much $...

Re: Fine China
i only registered for 12 sets maybe show her what you want and that you arent certain if you should get 12 of 16 sets and let her decide how many to purchase

this! I would try to work her opinion into it as to not sound pushy. She'll probably be more than generous!

Re: Fine China
I registered for 16 sets and my FMIL wanted to buy them for me. We talked about it before hand and I stated why I needed 16 place settings. She said that all of them were to expensive so she bought me 12. I am greatful any large gift from them. But just talk to her and explain what you want but that you don't expect more than 12 or whatever.

Re: Fine China
Tell her you aren't sure if you want 12 or 16 and she can do what she wants.. no worries and fine china is expensive so she shouldnt be surprised by the price.

Re: Fine China
tell her your not sure of how many to register for 12 or 16. then see what she is willing to purchase for you. I registered for 16. my sister bought me my whole china set and all the serving pieces, but only enough for 12 people. i left the extra 4 place settings on my registry. maybe someone else will get them for me.

I have no idea where im even going to put these, lol. I say do what you want though. If you want 16 tell her and maybe she'll buy a few of them and then u can registered for the rest

Re: Fine China
Does your pattern come in a large 40 or 50 piece set? Mine comes in a 50 piece set for $300 on sale at Macys (regular $600). It comes with 8 dinner plates, 8 salad plates, 8 bread and butter plates, 8 soup bowls, 8cups and saucers; 1 medium oval platter and 1 oval vegetable dish. The 5 piece settings are 86 each (60 sale), bowls 33 each (23 sale) and prob another 150-200 or so for the platter and veggie dish. Bought individually, the 50 pieces would have cost well over $1,000 (800 sale).
Anyway, point of story is, since it was so much cheaper to get the full 50 piece set my parents are buying 2 of them. So we'll have 16 place settings and then 2 platters and 2 veggie dishes.
