Fire in NYC.

In the middle of the protest. In front of the garden.

I don't know I only heard bits and pieces of it. They said there was a fire by the protesters. It was by 31st and MSG. But thankfully the Fire fighters put it out.

I'm all for people protesting, but this is going to get out of hand. I hope it was an accident.

These protestors are f'in hippocrites.

They hate Bush... they want to protest. They claim they are all for peace and justice and such. But all they are doing is detering the 10k cops from doing their job of PROTECTING this city.

I am in training this week about 8 blocks away from MSG. I am going to walk down during my lunch break to check out what all the fuss is about. Maybe I will snap some photos.

please do -- and i agree with your sentiments

they have a right to protest, but when they do it in a way that disrupts the police from protecting the city and disrupting traffic -- i have a problem with that

Well, it looks to me like most reports (of the big protest in Central Park yesterday, for example) are mentioning no such disruptions. There are no reports of major disruptions from most people posting on this list. My parents went to NYC on Saturday and saw nothing but peace and quiet.

Protests are NOT NECESSARILY disruptive. Some are, but most aren't. Just like most people in their everyday lives aren't disruptive, but a few are.

I'm getting mighty tired of the common assumption that protests are necessarily and always disruptive.

I've said this a bunch of times on this board before, and I'll continue to do so: this country was founded by protesters. If the FOX news network was covering the Boston Tea Party today, they'd criticize it as a bunch of loonies destroying corporate property and messing up traffic in the harbor!

i heard the same thing about the one yesterday

oh i have no problem with peaceful marching, but these guys that lay down in the street and block traffic and are destructive

didn't see too much of that yesterday

To answer the question on the fire...it seems that there was a float that caught on fire in the middle of the protestors. They said on TV it might have been one (or more) of the protestors!!
