Fire Island

We have NEVER been there, neither has my family.

My mom took off next week and wants to do something 'family' She suggested Splish Splash - honestly im 28 - i personally dont feel like waiting on lines for hours to go on 2 slides AND im not very comfortable with my body that im willing to walk around all those people in my bathingsuit. Then she said Six Flags - been there, done disney and busch gardens.. to me in the end.. they are all the same

So.. she mentioned fire island.. which i would love to check out.. but we know nothing about it...

how do to we get there?
Can we just go for a whole day?
What can we do there?

Please HELP!!!! Thanks Ladies!

Re: Fire Island

I'm not sure what else there is to do on FI besides the bars/restaurants.

You can take a ferry, it depends on which part you want to go to.... there are ferries out of Bay Shore, Sayville, and Patchogue, I believe.

Yeah..... it does connect to Robert Moses. You can park at RM, and walk (through the nudie beach ) to Kismet, but, I think that's mostly residential, and a long walk.

Re: Fire Island

If you don't have a boat you can take the ferry, there is alot to do. They have alot of restaurants/ bars. There are cute shops, etc...

FH and I always go and for years he actually had a share in a house there, so I am very familiar with the FI. We always took the ferry to Ocean Beach from Bayshore. In Ocean Beach you can find great restaurants, hang out on th beach and there are PLENTY of bars at night. It is just a great place to visit b/c it feels like a mini vacation but so close. There are no cars on the island and deer are everywhere...It is gorgeous...you should def go!!!...HTH

I'd reccomend Ocean Beach also for the reasons mentioned above!

But, Davis Park is nice if you decide to take the ferry out of Patchogue and there is a restaurant there called the Casino that often has reggae bands and sometimes fireworks.

If you decide to take the ferry out of Sayville, you might want to take advantage of Sayville's Main Street and browse the shops and go for brunch before you head out to Sailor's Haven - which is just beach but it has a nice nature trail/boardwalk.

Have fun!
