My girls are thinking of having the bachelorette party on Fire island.
Please recommend town and place to stay Also, for girls who have done this - did you like it or would you have prefered NYC (date will be first weekend in June). Cheaper accommodations preferrable. Thanks!

Re: fire island help
Even though you may enjoy yourself in the NYC, it will be pricey. If you live on the island, you should just stay on the long island. Maybe do a Hamptons night out?

Re: fire island help
Ocean Beach and Ocean Bay Park are fun for going out. Finding an inexpensive place to stay for a weekend is HARD. You could try to call: All 631 area codes -- Ocean Bay Park:
Fire Island Hotel & Resort - 583-8000 Seashore Condos - 583-5860
Ocean Beach:
Carousel Guest House - 597-6612 Cleggs Hotel - 583-5399 Houser's Hotel - 583-8900 Place In The Sun - 583-5716 The Palms - 583-8870 The Seasons - 583-8295
MAKE YOU SURE YOU ASK ABOUT BATHROOMS. Some of the cheaper hotels have communal bathrooms!
ETA: as someone who's had a house on FI and spends a lot of time in NYC, I enjoy hanging out both places. If you're looking for a club type atmosphere, you won't find it on Fire Island - it is way more casual. But just as expensive.

Re: fire island help
We rented a beach house this past summer over at Ocean Bay Park, and had the greatest time ever!! they have a few restaurants there that on the weekend nights turn into clubs! It was so so so so much fun!!! Ocean Park is also a ton of fun, BUT....beware, it's the 'Land of NO' lol
FM me if you would like any more info!!

Re: fire island help
I've had a Fire Island rental for 9 summers. I've gone to bachelorette parties there and I see them there a lot. I think it's a lot of fun. But the thing to remember is that it won't be cheaper than a night out in the city. At one bachelorette party I went to, a girl ran out of money before dinner was over. She forgot to consider the price of tolls and her ferry ticket, and the dinner was expensive (but sooo good). Still, it is such a fun time! You could even call one of the real estate brokers out there b/c some houses are rented out by the weekend (not many, though). I have a friend who may be willing to rent out his house. It's 3-4 bedrooms and its an older bungalow type house, but it's clean and it's a roof over your head. I think it sleeps 9-10 people. It's in Ocean Beach, which is where I would recommend for a BP. FM me if you might be interested.

Fire Island is so awesome. The only thing is that the weather can go either way that time of the year. There really isn't a ton to do during the day if its cold or rainy. I would suggest the Hamptons or NYC because at least you won't feel trapped there. I wanted mine to be there but am too worried about the weather.

Re: fire island help
my BP was at Ocean Beach and we had the best time! I know my girls had a hard time finding a place but I think we stayed at houser's. It was decent, but the rooms are REALLY small. we had two rooms. It really didnt matter because we just used the rooms to pregame, sleep, and change! There are so many restaurants and the mermaid is a great dancing scene :) hehe. you can also enjoy the beach during the day !

Re: fire island help
We stayed at the Fire Island Hotel in Ocean Bay Park. We got 2 rooms, one was a 6 person (slept 8) and a 4 person. The 6 person had a porch, sink, and fridge. The place is right on the beach. It was nice to be in Ocean Bay Park and not Ocean Beach, as OB is the land of NO. But being the next town over we were able to get a water taxi and it wasn't too expensive. We had such a great time that we've decided to make a weekend trip every summer to FI. FM me if you want more info.

Re: fire island help
Ocean Beach!...there is a new hotel called the Palm I think. There's more to do there than other towns, more restaurants and bars.
The only bad thing about FI is if it rains, you're stuck inside watching tv and drinking, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Re: fire island help
I have been to all 3- hamptons, FI and NYC- they are all pricey
in FI I stayed at robyn's rest- great hotel with bar/resturant down stairs
I think it was $300 labor day weeekend- but you could sleep 4 in a room
the hamptons- all the clubs are spread out- and the cabs are so expensive- like $20 per person min
the city is easy- but in June- I would rather be at the beach
if you have a lot of people- I would try the house rental- I rented a great house in west hampton for $1200 memorial day weekend-
