Are fireworks illegal (therefore consequently un-obtainable) on Long Island? I know they are in the city (five boroughs)... But I am wondering about Long Island? Can you buy them? Use them? Where??

Re: Fireworks
i'm pretty sure they are illegal, a couple of years ago a neighbor got in trouble for shooting them off from the cops, and then the show was over

Re: Fireworks
It is illegal to buy on LI. I don't see many people selling illegally here either. People do use them illegally, but I think you are supposed to have a license. DH's friends went to PA to the Poconos to buy them. Some of his friends are firemen so they set them off in a school field. But one of his friends blew his finger off. And now it is a stump.

Re: Fireworks
I'm pretty sure they're illegal, but I don't think it's as heavily patrolled as NYC. I could be wrong. On the 4th of July in my neighborhood there's a cop on every corner. literally. It's insane. I think you can get fireowrks in chinatown, but I'm really not sure

It might be the whole sate actually, but they aren't really unattainable. Someone always manages to have some.

That's probably because of the area in which you live...Used to be some CRAZY Fourth of July celebrations there, no?

Totally illegal, and since the new *watchlist* of items since 2001, depending on what type of fireworks they are, they can be considered dangerous to national security. (I forgot what the exact terminology is)

It depends on the neighborhood. By us it is pretty controlled b/c people go into the school yard to shoot them off.

Re: Fireworks
I believe fireworks are illegal in the entire state. I know you can buy them in Chinatown or the Poconos.
I remember years ago when my dad was a cop they'd give the cops all the illegal fireworks that they took from people & he'd have a huge display in the park by us.
I think it's calmed down in recent years

I know. It's the same way in Virginia...Fireworks are the entire 'seasonal' section at most supermarkets and department stores.
