First attempt at dress shopping

First attempt at dress shopping

Went to David's Bridal this morning with one of my BM's to look at dresses for the girls. Somehow, I ended up trying on gowns (a few pics in album). I thought I found The One, but nobody liked it on me (there were many spectators with opinions). Everyone seemed to love this poofy Oleg Cassini...except me. I went back tonight with my mom and she liked both dresses. But I was so indecisive that the lady who was helping me started bringing more dresses. She got me into a gorgeous Vera Wang, but it didn't flatter me...and then she couldn't get me out of it!! The zipper was defective. Nothing was caught in it, the dress wasn't too tight, they couldn't figure it out. It seemed like every single employee took a turn trying to get the zipper down to no avail. And, finally, they cut me out of the dress. Lol. Only me!

OMG that is crazy! I would have been dying laughing. Maybe you're better off going with fewer people. Less opinions. I suggest trying on more. I tried on so many and I'm glad I didn't settle.

Agreed. Keep shopping until you find something you LOVE! I went to 6 stores. I found dresses I like and even thought I found 'the one' but still had some doubts. I'm glad I took my time and shopped around a bit.

OMG sounds like an eventful first experience! Go with just one or two people, too many people can get overwhelming. In the end, go with the dress you believe is the one.. I'm sure you'll rock whichever dress you end up picking..

When dress shopping, my only advice is to never go to Paradise Bridal in Patchogue. While everything worked out well for my wedding day, the store was a nightmare to work with. Practically everytime I was there there were others sharing their terror stories. My dress only came in 3 weeks before my wedding! Talk about anxiety! Avoid them!!

Thanks everyone! I had gone with just one BM at first, then after my hair & makeup trial, I went back in the evening with just my mom. But, somehow, on both trips, I ended up with all the salespeople and a group of other customers around me, all giving their unsolicited opinions--and even bringing me veils and shoes to try with the dresses. It was crazy lol

Simba, your 2nd dress in the pics is my dress! Did you have a ballgown slip on underneath? I also don't like poofy gowns, but I put it on with an a-line slip, and it was nice.

Jen--I'm not 100% sure if it was a ball gown slip or an A-line slip. I just put on the slip and longline bra they gave me lol. The slip had a ton on tulle at the bottom and was smooth from my waist to about the knee area. I loved that dress, but not on me. :(

Awww!!!! Omg I tried on that Oleg dress and I think you look beautiful in it, I also felt the same with it on me. Something about it wasn't the most flattering, you on the other hand have no issue and look gorgeous but I am a bit biased about the dress because my experience was meh with it.

You look pretty darn gorgeous in both, but I think you have to be the one who likes the dress or you won't feel comfortable in it. And I'm sorry everyone had opinions, that would drive me nuts too. Some people were never taught manners! lol

I actually love the first dress. I'm totally in love with lace.

I love them both! I'm a big fan of Lace but the second one is so pretty too!

@Jaime - I really wanted to love this dress the way everyone else did. I know it gave me a waistline, which I really appreciated. But, it was super heavy and I can't imagine wearing it all day and night. Maybe I am too practical, but the thought of someone having to lift 30lbs of tulle over my head so I can use the bathroom made me nervous. LOL.

Thanks for all the kind words ladies! I didn't think I'd be able to find any dresses to try on that were in my size and was so happy when they needed to use clips on a few of the dresses because they were too big. I got teary-eyed when I put that Oleg dress on. But I think it was because I was so happy that I didn't look like a sausage, lol. It gave me the confidence to want to keep looking until I find something I love. I just need to hurry up because I know it can take a long time for the dress to come in once I finally order it!

The first dress is BEAUTIFUL on you!! Maybe try adding a belt to give it something that it seems to be missing. I think maybe that's why you feel it didn't love you back? Seriously I love it on you.
