Okay need a survey. is your first dance song something that the two of you have been listening to throughout your dating? Or how many of you picked your song after you were engaged? I mean picked your song by the words in it that meant the two of you? We have this one song that we liked in the past but we are thinking about this song we 'just found' that has great words.
What you your opinion

Re: first dance
We picked one that was a favorite of ours since we began dating. I heard of others after we were engaged that would have been very nice as well, but we kept going back to the original... we just knew it was 'our song'!!

Re: first dance
We picked our first song because we both liked it. It is 'Your Song' by Elton John...Ewan McGregor sang a version of it in Moulin Rouge...although we loved that one, we thought the version was just too campy.
It's not like we hear the song and dreamily stare into each other's eyes...it is just a pretty song that really embodies how we feel about each other.

Re: first dance
We picked ours 'When I Fall In Love' from Sleepless in Seattle because everytime we watch the movie we see us. So it was only appropriate that we pick its theme song.

Re: first dance
FI was talking to his best man and his best man said he heard a song that as soon as he heard it he thought of FI and I.
Then he told us the name of the song and we went on line to find the lyrics. They were beautiful. We then bought the CD that the song was from.
We are using 'Forever' by KISS

Re: first dance
We picked 'Lovely Day' by Bill Withers because we needed a first song. We didn't want anything slow and we liked the words to the song.

Re: first dance
I picked 'To Make You Feel My Love' By Garth Brooks. My DH didn't even know this was our wedding song until it started playing at our wedding.
If you knew him you'd understand!

Re: first dance
Sade 'By your side.' We heard it in the car about 2 years ago and at the same time we both said, 'this would be an amazing wedding song.'

Re: first dance
Back in the late 80's I was watching the cheesy movie 'The Allnighter' with Susanna Hoffs from the Bangles. AT the end of the movie when she gets together with her man, they play a song by Dan Hill called 'I never thought that I could love' after the two of them 'did the deed'. I thought the words were amazing and vowed that if I ever found my true love, I would want that song played at our wedding. Well, I found my love and I played the song for him and we both agreed that it was perfect.

Re: first dance
This is the one wedding thing we ahve been arguing about. We dedicated songs our first Valentines day 8 years ago and he did I swear and I did power of love to him. So they have always been our songs. He insists on havin I swear as our wedding song and although the words could not be any more perfect it seems so 16 year old to me. I like a few newish songs. What do you ladies think should we go for his idea and have a song thats newer for our second dance. I dont knw why this is bothering me so **** much.

Re: first dance
We never had 'a song' since we've been dating. We chose 'I Could Write a Book' for our first dance. To quote a line from the song, it's about 'how to make two lovers of friends.' We were friends/best friends for almost 10 years before we started dating. Also, the song is from the 'When Harry Met Sally' soundtrack and coincidentally, it was our favorite movie individually!!
By the way, Kim...great song!

Re: first dance
we never really had a song - we met while in law school so most of our time was spent studying! we chose 'it had to be you' because the words fit us to a T!
ETS: Kim, by brother and his wife used that Sade song for their wedding - it was beautiful!

Re: first dance
We didn't have a 'song' either - after we got engaged we listened to a bunch of songs and wound up picking something that we liked the words to but also something that would be fun to dance to. (we're both a bit of a ham) We're using, 'Can't Take my Eyes off of You' by Frankie Vallie.

Re: first dance
Ours was 'That's All' by Nat King Cole. We picked ours because we wanted a standard, something classic that we'll never get tired of hearing or get old or dated. It wasn't really 'our song', we just didn't have one! And the lyrics are just so sweet that we both teared up when we heard it.

Re: first dance
we are having the same issue. we have a few songs that are our favorites from when we started dating and bring back memories of particular times but none of them are a 'couple' song.

Re: first dance
we wanted an older/classic song that we would hear over the years (since we knew that it lasted the years already)
At Last - Etta James...the words are fitting for us, b/c we never really wnated to marry anyone (exes) until we met each other

Re: first dance
We both new the song that would be 'our song' for years now- without even discussing it until after we were engaged. It is 'Don't Want to Miss a THing' by Aerosmith. As soon as the song was released we talked about how much it meant to us. And then after we were engaged- FI asked whats our song gonna be- and we both said at the same time - dont want to miss a thing.
It was such an easy decision - well not really even a decision- we believe that song was made for us

Re: first dance
we looked for meaninful words...... the songs we liekd are not really good for a wedding first dance.
