We are taking dance lessons for our first dance and Don't want anyone to join in
So can we do that and then have a 2nd dance for all the couples?

Definitely - a lot of people do this nowadays. I think they call it a 'couples dance'.

I think that would be fine. Make sure you leave the word with the band that your intention is to have the first dance alone. There should be no problem with that.

We did this & it worked out really well. Our first dance song was only 2:19 long, so both together were less than 7 minutes.

I was thinking of doing that Theresa...maybe printing it on the back of the program or menu. Haven't ironed that out yet...there's a poem I love that I was thinking would work better.

As long as your badn/dj knbows what you want it will be fine. We don't want a whoel dance to ourtd;esve, but we also don't want just the bridal party to dance, b/c it is small. FH says we shoudl have our parnets dance too. I was thinking of maybe havign the bridal party dance with their dates, but one is 16 & probably wo't have a date, so my cousin or uncle will have to volunteer, but I don't want her to feel weird for being the only one without a date.

I'd like to do our first dance solo (it's a relatively short song anyway) and then have a second slow song to invite everyone to dance with us.

Yes. As far as I know no one joins in the first dance unless the DJ says 'at this time the couple would like to extend the invitation for guests to join them on the dance floor'. You can always say 'the first dance, which the couple would like to dance to alone will be XYZ song by ABC band' (or something that sounds like that but more polite).
