Re: First Fitting!!
Thanks so much!!
7/5/02 -- Great idea -- unfortunately / fortunately I'm getting hair extensions right before the wedding-- so I have to wait on the hair & makeup trial until the week before the wedding (I've always hated that my hair is so thin -- so I said what the hell! )
Tracey -- Actually mine is a combination of 2 Innes Di'Santo dresses (the beading from one - but the front panel of another). But thanks -- there's no greater compliment than hearing that someone picked a wedding gown that looks just like your own!!

You look great!!!I was looking at your photo and you looked so familiar to me. I couldn't put my finger on it and then I realized who you reminded me of...Kelly Clarkson from American Idol!!!!

So how did you lose the weight???
and
Where are you going for your hair extensions? How long are they good for? Have you had it done before?

Re: First Fitting!!
THE HAIR:No, I've never had extensions before -- I'm SO Excited
They're going to match my hair color and be a few inches longer -- probably mid back or so. The great thing will be that -- for the first time in my life -- I'll actually have luxurious thick hair (I Hope!) I'll warn you though -- it costs a BUNDLE!I didn't tell my FI I'm doing it -- I'm just going to walk in from my appointment and shock the hell out of him...
THE DIET:
Okay -- here's how I lost the weight...
For the first three months or so I just cut out junk food & most carbs --> bread, pasta, potatos, rice (the real starchy ones) - but I did eat smaller amounts of beans, corn and rice. I ended up eating a lot more proteins and veggies. With that I went from a 16/17 to about a 12 --> but I was VERY gooey! So I started Body for Life. It's a 12 week program and I cannot say enough good things about it! I ended up going down to a size 6/8. Basically, there's a list of proteins, carbs and veggies to choose from (nothing too bad or odd -- chicken, beef, fish, potatoes, brown rice, fruits were all in there) and you eat 6 times a day (very small meals every 2 to 3 hours) The big thing is that you work out 6 days a week -- one day weight training, the next aerobics, weight training, etc. On the 7th day you don't have to do anything.
If anyone wants to learn more you can check out www.bodyforlife.com or email me at [email protected] -- I'm happy to share my experiences...

Re: First Fitting!!
Jenny: They're suppossed to last about 3 months or so (basically it depends on how fast your hair grows) -- less time if you don't take care of them (after you get them wet you have to spray them with this special stuff to keep the bond that hold the extention onto your hair strong).I'll definitely post pictures of what they look like when I'm done!

Re: First Fitting!!
Dora - You look great!I've also been doing body for life for almost 2 years now. In the first 6 months, I lost about 20 pounds and since then I've maintained. It is a great program - I highly recommend it.

Re: First Fitting!!
Dora, You look exquisite! A real princess! And congrats on the diet, that's inspirational! I've tried a few different things, but can't seem to stay away from pasta...or bread...or any other kind of carb...
Best of luck to you!

Re: First Fitting!!
Thanks you all for your kind words -- I can't tell you how much it means!! I grew up as a fat, insecure kid that was abused by my classmates -- so it's still a little weird for me to get compliments on how I look. Not that I think I look like Quasimoto or anything -- I'm just not confident about my appearance.....So thanks a lot!

Re: First Fitting!!
I didn't order my dress yet, but how in the world did you lose three dress sizes? That's wonderful. Dress looks absolutely gorgeous. My wedding is next November and somehow I can't get motivated to lose weight, tell me your secret.

To Lmissb...
Lmissb:The technical details are in my post above --> as far as motivation --> all I kept thinking is --> my kids, their kids and so on will look at the pictures from the wedding and I don't want them to think 'Wow - Mom / Grandma / Great-grandma would've been so pretty if she'd just lost a few pounds..'
Shallow but true...I'm not saying that you have to be thin to look pretty --> hey, compared to Calista Flockhart or Winnona Ryder I'm still obese
--> but for me, my weight made me feel insecure, so I figured what the heck --> I can keep away from junk food until after the wedding --> it's not like it won't be there after I'm married! And my sister also went on the diet with me and we'd go to the gym together, which made a huge difference.I mean - at the end of the day, there's no secret formula --> to lose weight eat less and excercise. Every meal, every excercise session --> you gotta ask, would you rather say 'forget it - I'll stay as-is' or do you want to change the way you look... If you'd rather eat without restriction and you can't face the thought of going to a gym -- then you won't lose weight -- which is perfectly fine!!!! Just own that and move on. It's not like there's a weigh-in before the vows are read -- and your FI loves you as-is. But if you really - really want to look different, you gotta put in the time & effort.
I don't know if that helps or not -- but that's what keep me on the treadmill...
Good luck!
