So my first fitting was sched for Tues 10/19. No one could make it so I changed it to Wed 10/20 so my mom could. Now she's had something come up and still no BM's can come. I know it's important to have people at the last fitting to learn how to do the bustle. But I'm kinda upset that no one will be at my first fitting. I still have decisions to make about jewelry and undergarments. I really want pictures and I really want someone to be with me.
Not the best way to make a memory - by yourself.
Is it selfish of me to ask people to change plans for this? I changed the date once already to accommodate my Mom and then she made a commitment. I feel bad asking the salon to switch again and I don't think I can wait much longer to start my fittings.

Re: First fitting dilemma
you're not selfish..someone should be there with you..ask more people..someone is bound to be available..also ask the salon to change if no one can come just explain it to them.

Re: First fitting dilemma
It doesn't have to be a BM or your mom. is FMIL around? or another friend.
I went dress shopping with a friend who is not a bm, because she lives near me & was curious about a fancy store near us & she only wnet to 1 store when she got married & wanted to shop more.

Re: First fitting dilemma
To be honest, the first fitting is disappointing, at least for me... the dress was too big and I felt like crap in it. The next few are amazing though so I wouldn't sweat the first one too much, JMHO.
I totally understand how you want someone there. I havent made one purchase without my mom there. But the seamstress will show you all the different bustle options and at Bridal Reflections (where I got my dress), she said it is at the final fitting that you need the person there who will be doing your bustle.

I agree. The dress was too big on me and I didn't even like it on me. But I understand about having to go by yourself. I will go with you if you want, I'm available on 10/20.

Re: First fitting dilemma
Yes, this is a big deal. If you have already chaged your plans once for them they should accommodate.
My mother is deceased and my MOH (only bridal party member) lives out of state and has an infant daughter. I found my dress while shooping by myself... but I'm used to it. My FMIL is wonderful. I took her dress shopping with me a couple of times. She loved it and it was a great opportunity for us to bond. FH was married once before and his EX never included his mom in anything or ask her opinion (the ex never got along with any member of his family, immediate or extended). FH told me his mom was 'over the moon' when I asked her. I'm also planning on asking my godmother to come to my fitting. She lives aways away but her only daughter never married and won't and both she and FMIL are retired so it's a bit easier.
I think including your FMIL in on the fitting might be a good idea depending how well you get along. It's always good to make them feel included.

Re: First fitting dilemma
just my mom came with me to my first and second fitting... it's a big deal but I would not ask people to break plans for it...JMO the bustle was very easy to understand and my mother and I just took pics so everyone could see... I do not think I would want a bunch of other people there...

The bridal shop will understand. Thankfully Im sure your not the first to have this happen which should ease you a bit. If they dont, your the bride and it's your memories your perserving not theirs. Another thing you can do is bring a camera with you and have one of the bridal consultants take them for you. Good Luck and I hope it works out the way you want it too!
