First Major Wedding Headache

Okay, I've been planning this wedding for over a year, I have 40 days left and today I've hit a snag. I'm so mad that you can plan something so far in advance and still have something go wrong. As we all know there are not a lot of hotels on Long Island (atleast not Suffolk County) and the ones there are are pretty expensive (especially if you are not from NY). Well 10 of our wedding party members are coming from out of town for the wedding. So we reserved a block of 10 rooms at the Econo-Lodge in Smithtown for them b/c it's about $80 a night. We reserved 20 rooms in a block for wedding guests at the Islandia Marriott which are about $159 a night. Big Difference. Well in our invitations we informed guests about rooms reserved at Marriott. We also mentioned that other accomdations MAY be found at Econo-Lodge. We never mentioned a block. I also told several people that the block at Econo-Lodge was only for wedding party. Well today I found out that the block is booked and five of the rooms are booked by wedding guests not in the wedding party! And the rest of the hotel is booked. So now i have five wedding party members and spouses without a place to stay. I'm frantically trying to find similar priced accomodations but it's slim to none pickings. Just needed to vent!

First Major Wedding Headache

I think there is a Howard Johnson's in Commack. If I remember correctly, their prices are fairly reasonable. I'm sorry you have to deal with this! : (

There is also a Hampton Inn in Commack. Both the Howard Johnson and the Hampton Inn are near the LIE. There is also a Howard Johnson in Westbury on Jericho Tpke. Good Luck.

Howard Johnson - LIE

If you choose this option, check it out in person, or perhaps someone here can give it a recommendation. We stopped there about 2 years ago and it looked like a major cruising spot for gay men. May have just been some event on the island that weekend.... but I'd check out the crowd before putting guests there.

I don't know if it's too far from where your wedding is, but the Gaslight Motor Inn in Medford on Route 112 is very nice and is $64.00-74.00 a night. My fiance and I used to stay there together when we didn't live together.

Gaslight is good

Whenever my relatives including my brother and his family come to LI they stay at the Gaslight. The rooms are clean and in good shape and are not that expensive. My step-sister and her family were here a week ago and they stayed there for several days. It is about 2 miles north of the LIE on Rte 112 in Medford. There is also a restaurant directly in front.

Found a place!

I found rooms at the Terryville Motor Lodge. My mom checked out the rooms and they are not bad, and they are replacing carpet and furniture as we speak. The rate is $78 a night -- so it worked out perfectly for price, and it's further away from church/reception but it's close to my mom's house so that works. THANKS FOR EVERYONE'S ADVICE. I APPRECIATE IT!
