first meeting with Church tonight....

My FH and I are meeting with a Priest tonight to book our Church. I'm scared. Any tips or pointers? How long does this take? Also, I did all my sacraments in that Church (FH did his sacraments in a Catholic Church in Suffolk County) and when I attend mass I give a cash donation but I don't do the envelopes. Is that going to matter? They have no record of me attending mass even though I do..

Don't be scared, especially if you go to that church. I'm not even Catholic and it was both our first time meeting our priest, now I was nervous! But it was fine. They ask you some weird questions like Are you related and Are you willingly going into this. Then he gave us a book of readings to choose from, scheduled our rehearsal and went over things we needed (for me it was my baptism certificate.)

Don't be nervous. It depends on how much of a talker your priest is, but you shouldn't be there for more than hour, probably less. You'll have to answer a series of questions, as a previous poster said, and some of them are a little weird, but they have to ask everybody. He'll take down your info, go over what is required of you and your FH, as far as any documents you might need, and he'll tell you how to go about scheduling pre-cana. It's really no big deal. He'll try to get to know a little bit about the both of you, and your relationship with God, so he may ask you if you attend mass, but he's not going to grill you about donations or for an attendance record or anything like that. Don't worry!

I did all of my sacraments at the church we're getting married at too. So they had all of that on record. But they asked for copies of FH's sacrament documents b/c he received his elsewhere. There's really nothing to be worried about. The priest will ask some questions re: marriage and whatnot, but most likely he'll also ask about you and FH. My priest wanted to get to know us better, so he asked how long we've been together, how we met, etc. That way he can make the ceremony a little more personal.
