first meeting with the church ?

FH and I are meeting with the deacon of FH church on Tuesday. It will be our first real check! I think were just giving him what we want our date to be and he said he has some papers for us. Is there anything I should be aware of before going. Thanks girls.
On a different note with all this wedding/engagement stuff FH and I forgot we had tickets to see Jeff Dunham tonight until about 7pm yesterday!

When we met with the priest who will be marrying us, he asked us a few questions about ourselves, how we met, etc. We had to do a mini interview to make sure we are going to raise our kids Catholic, etc. Then you fill out a few papers and that's it! They also ask you if you are going to do a mass or just the ceremony. BTW, getting married in a church isn't cheap!

I think ours is going to cost us close to $1000.. there is the 'donation' to the church, fee for the organist, and then pre cana.

Re: first meeting with the church ?

Thanks for all the info on the church. We already told them we wanted a full mass but I am sure there will be more questions. FH family is really close with his church so we always said we would get married there. FMIL is actually paying for the church since it is really important to her. Even if she was not paying I am sure we would still get married there.

The show was really good expect for the fact that they started really late. He was filming for his new DVD so we could be on it!

I agree w/ what the other girls mentioned...

We had like a 'mini interview' and filled out some basic forms; we had to choose if we would have a full mass or not and were told of the mandatory donation. One thing to ask (if it is important to you) is if you can throw anything in/outside the church (e.g. our church you cant throw petals or anything down the aisle or outside when you leave) and also some churches will not allow non-religious readings/music/etc. so if you planned on one you should ask what their policy is HTH and congrats on the check!

In my church, they don't have to be Catholic. My maid of honor is Jewish and she has been a bridesmaid before for someone else at my church.

Just wanted to add that we are meeting with our Priest tonight too! We can compare stories tomorrow. I heard from a friend who just went through the process that we're going to get a lecture on birth control and sex.

How did it go??

We met with the priest before Christmas and we were nervous about the premarital sex question but it never came up. The priest was really nice and just asked general questions about why we wanted to get married and if we discussed children and things like that.

Church was around $600 plus tips for altar servers and pre-cana is $135 for 5 or 6 weeks. I am still researching prices for precana. I'd prefer to get it over with in one day and found churches in Brooklyn for $200 for a Friday night and Saturday all day session , but don't know if we want to pay the extra money.

How did your meeting at the church go? Wondering what type of questions they asked.

Re: first meeting with the church ?

It went really well. He went over our date but since there no 2013 book yet were at the back of 2012. Then he separated us and asked basic information questions and questions about our parents and where we made our sacraments. Then there was about six questions on just about how you promise to live by the catholic religion. After he just went over pre cana, a mass, a ceremony, and other things to consider (bridal party, candles, flowers, music for the mass). Overall pretty painless. He even said if we want to kill each other other the process to call him! LOL The deacon known FH family for years. He married 4 of FH cousin and baptized 2 of FH 2nd cousins.
