First time home buyer question.

First time home buyer question.

Would you guys please recommend what bank gave you the best rates and assistance. It's all so confusing. We are going to start looking but I don't know where to start. My biggest fear is that there going to tell me I can't afford even a shoe to live in. I need someone who works with first time buyers and will be generous with information.

I worked with a truly incredible mortgage broker when I was single (aka poor as hell) and bought my first home. Chris Rothar, from Lend America, got me a great rate and was so forthcoming with information in a way that I understood. Sometimes the news wasn't always pleasant and he didn't sugar coat it or try to sell me other loans. But he did always give me the truth. I ended up with a mortgage I could afford in an adorable area, reasonable closing costs and a lender I'll use as long as he's in business. He was wonderful to work with and has access to thousands of different banks depending on your situation. His number is 631-414-6506. Good Luck.

Google mortgage rates. Then you will be able to find a site that has all the going rates now, also, it depends onyour credit report ( as I'm sure you know) We went through First West Mortgage b/c FH is NYPD and they are an approved lender ( we got a good discount) but as soon as we closed our mortgage was sold to Citimortgage...Do your research, and if you or FH is a teacher, PD, FD or military you can get a better deal.

Good Luck

ditto - wells fargo has been both accomodating and very helpful. we were pretty much clueless in the beginning but they have been amazing!

Stay away from Chase! We got an awesome rate, but chase underwriting was the WORST! We had so many problems with them.

My FH works for the Post Office... Does that get me anything? He has to be good for something!
